If you want any inspiration or an idea of what our magazine is like please check out our last issue, where Lewis Harding wrote an awesome article on 包子! 🥟 🥟 (also I know that looks more like 饺子 but emojis are limited 😂)

Please contact Rebecca Snoad if you want the chance to be a part of Issue 40.

晚上好!The time has come to find articles for Issue 40 of the magazine! Again, there is no theme, so you can write about anything you want as long as it is either 1) in Mandarin or 2) in English but about Chinese culture/tradition/lifestyle. Articles should be around 750-800字 (or 400-600 words if in English). The first draft deadline is 2 weeks away on the 26th of March.

As always, if you think you might like to get involved or have any questions at all please message Rebecca Snoad :) We will be proof-reading the article for you, so please don't worry too much about your level of experience! Everyone is welcome.

大家好!Hope you all had a good winter break despite the looming uni deadlines! It is now time to find an article for Issue 39 of the Linguist magazine :)

There is no theme this time, so you can write an article on any topic you want as long as it's in Mandarin (or you can write in English as long as the topic is about Chinese culture/tradition). As always, the articles should be around 750-800字 (or 400-600 words if in English). The deadline for the first draft of the article is next Friday 29th January. Don't worry if you do not have much experience - we will be here to support you by proofreading and answering any questions you may have :) If you want any inspiration, please take a look at Issue 38: https://issuu.com/thelinguistmagazine/docs/issue_38_final

If you are interested in writing this article or have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to message this page or Rebecca Snoad! 谢谢!

你好 everyone! :)

Issue 38 of the Linguist is a Festive Edition, which means we are collecting articles about festivities, traditions and holidays, especially ones surrounding winter time. You can write the article in Mandarin or in English as long as it is about a Chinese tradition/festival! There are so many things you could write about, but a few examples are the Mid-autumn festival (中秋节), the Winter-solstice festival (冬至)/winter traditions or even Chinese New Year (春节). Articles should be around 750-800字 if possible (or 400-600 words if written in English).

If you are interested in writing an article or have any questions, please do get in touch with me by messaging this page! The deadline for first drafts is THIS FRIDAY 23rd October. ❄️☃️🏮

大家好!My name is Becca and I am the Mandarin Editor for The Linguist this year 😊 I grew up in Singapore but I moved to the UK for uni. I'm a third year Music student, but seem to spend more time studying Mandarin and learning about Chinese culture than I do on my actual degree at the moment 😂

Please feel free to message me on this page if you ever have any ideas for articles for our section. Anyone can volunteer to write an article as long as you're a member of our society! They can be written in Mandarin or in English on pretty much any topic to do with Chinese culture or the language. Also, if you know anyone who would be interested, please do invite them to like our page :)

We are really excited to announce that the first issue of The Linguist has just been released, so please do check it out if you want to find out more about our committee members and editors, as well as some of our favourite travel experiences!

Hope you are all well and have enjoyed welcome week!

The UoB Linguist is back! Our first issue of 2020-21 is here with a range of fascinating articles written by our Committee and Editorial Team! Read about the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, trips to Thailand and Catalonia, cultural exchanges, night trains and more!
