Mike Clapper recites "When Chic Harley Got Away" by James Thurber
As a special treat looking forward to Saturday’s Ohio State at Michigan game in Ann Arbor, we asked Lexington’s Mike Clapper to recite famed Ohio author James Thurber’s poem “When Chic Harley Got Away.”
Clapper is the public address announcer at Lexington High School sporting events and recently retired after 12 years as the voice of the Washington Mystics in the WNBA.
Harley was a three-time All-American who intercepted four passes and ripped off a 42-yard touchdown run in the Buckeyes’ first win over Michigan in 1919 at Ann Arbor.

High tides and powerful gusts of wind today on the Kokosing River in downtown Mount Vernon.
KP reporter Grant Pepper took this video near the viaduct at 1 p.m. Monday. The bike path running along the river was flooded near the bridge on both sides.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, which tracks the height and speed of rivers across the country, the Kokosing River reached 10.42 feet at 11:30 a.m. Monday – the highest it's been since Feb. 18, when melting snow and additional precipitation caused the river to reach 11.48 feet.
The Kokosing River also flowed at 4,750 cubic feet per second at 11:30 a.m. Monday – the fastest it's flowed since Feb. 18, when it reached 5,800 cubic feet per second.

Danville’s Hess scores 1,000
Congratulations to Danville senior Brooklynn Hess, who scored her 1,000th career point tonight in the fourth quarter against KIPP Columbus. The Blue Devils went on to beat the Jaguars, 43-21.
Hess is the sixth Blue Devil to reach the 1,000-point mark since head coach Matt Proper took over in 2012. CeCe Newbold, a 2020 graduate, was the last Danville player to do so.
Hess earned all-district and all-state honors last season, and was named KMAC Player of the Year. She is averaging 13.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 blocks per game this season, leading the Blue Devils (10-4, 6-2 KMAC) in all major stat categories.
Friends and family were present Saturday to watch her make history. (Video by Grant Pepper/Knox Pages)
