The leader of a county lines criminal network, Gerrard Parkins, orchestrated a brutal scheme involving the trafficking of he**in and crack-cocaine from Merseyside to Yorkshire. The gang, operating under the names Scouse Jonno and Scouse Mikey, coerced local drug addicts into street dealing in Scarborough and York from February to September 2019. Parkins, identified as the key figure in court, had substantial amounts of money funnelled into his account as a result.
Reports from The York Press revealed that Parkins, already serving a seven-year prison sentence for unrelated drug supply offenses, was considered "the top man." He, along with Anthony Wright, 31, both from Liverpool, is awaiting sentencing in January for their prominent roles in the conspiracy.
Following an investigation by North Yorkshire Police, ten defendants admitted guilt to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. Additionally, Parkins, Jake Myers, 23, and Lee Hayes, 28, pleaded guilty to money laundering. The court learned that Christopher Watt, a lower-ranking member, had been stabbed when attempting to sever ties with the criminal network, as stated by his lawyer.
PC Dave Williamson, from North Yorkshire Police's Intelligence Unit, emphasized the significance of dismantling the County Lines operation that spanned Liverpool, York, and Scarborough. He expressed satisfaction in bringing those involved to justice and affirmed the commitment to collaborative efforts with community partners to combat drug-related crime and its detrimental impact on society.
