I listen to this song, “Funny” more often these days when the world is seeming more and more like another “F” word. Thanks Sean and Big Horn for reminding us to start with ourselves, just being a little less F’ed. Don’t forget to check out Big Horn at Tres Litros in Salida next weekend with more new music to get you straightened out and then put you a little curvy again! Chris Kresge, we’ve got some new energy in Salida and Poncha Springs!

So we are all signing this petition, and thanks Angela Winston and everyone else for getting it going.

I’d like to propose we set some reasonable hours, decibel limits around the edges of properties, and days for outdoor music that we can all agree on. Then, enforce them fairly and provide limited exceptions for permitted events.

Music and other arts are vital to this town, the spirit of those within, and our economy. No one should be able to control live music performances without a legitimate democratic process.

-One of your humble sound people willing to follow consensus, common sense rules.

Staff recommendation

Blake Crouch, a Colorado author, best known for his Wayward Pines trilogy and Dark Matter, is the author of Abandon.

Abandon is a fictional mining town set above Silverton, CO.
On Christmas Day in 1893, the entire town (all the men, women and children) disappear. Along with the bricks of gold rumored to be in the town.
The bodies were never found.

Roughly 100 years later, a group of people come to Abandon to investigate.

The book alternates between the events in the 1800’s and present day. It’s a perfect spring fever antidote; gripping, atmospheric, and semi-local.

Regrettably sent from one of our Salida muses, Devon Kasper re: Shakespeare in the Park:
Out, out damned COVID! Thou art an artless rogue, a coxcomb, a barren-spirited knave, a musty, churlish, lecherous nook-shotten cankerblosom! Alas, the stars did not align. I regret to inform my community that I have made the very difficult decision to postpone our 10th Annual Shakespeare in the Park production to next June (hopefully) over Art Walk weekend. Many elements came into play with coming to this muddy-mettled conclusion. And although I was trying to move the show to early August, I see now there are still too many snail-paced uncertainties. According to the Governor's mandates, even if I had a show with 10 or fewer actors and crew, we would still need to social-distance and I am sure you can understand how challenging this would be and masking actors is not an option. Also, more tragically, it is my understanding we would have had a limited number of audience members allowed to watch the show. But as you know the audience is the most important element to a show, and the bigger, the better! Funding was lost. Some actors, understandably, would not have felt safe participating, small cast or not. And to be honest August is not an ideal time weather wise to try to perform outside with a greater chance of rain and July would make for a very hot rehearsal process. Also, I certainly did not want to see my actors and crew put in countless hours and energy only to have things "shut down" again and the show canceled, like we, the Drama Team, experienced with Clue in spring at the high school. I feel at peace with this decision. We will do the show we want to do with actors galore and an abundant audience next year: let there be cake and ale! I thank you for your continued support. My heart goes out to all the artists, poets, musicians and actors out there who are struggling to find a way to do their thing, have a platform, be witnessed, seen or heard. Please keep creating, please keep dancing, please keep singing, please keep playing. We need you...until we are all met, my friends!

As a sometimes culture writer trying to wrap my head around the echoing explosion of race consciousness in our Universe, I perseverate on the essential ingredients of my very being; nurtured in me by African American individuals. I consider myself lucky to have been illuminated in the powerful influences of their shared, life-embracing culture and in each glowing, warm light I have had the pleasure to know. I want to assert how much Black Lives matter to me and to my greater country and world. I’d like to share today, the work of this man, Corey Barksdale @ coreybarksdale.com who uses color and light in such an expansive, awakening way that I am reminded of all the souls I can never repay for their presence in the universe. Please. Let’s try to assure that ALL the light is protected. JW

Hi Ark Mag community! Been thinking about all of you and hope you are weathering the apocalypse. I've got a bit of work for someone web-savvy and local who has some time. It would be backing up arkmagazine.net onto a hard drive so I can shut it down for awhile. I want to make sure our hard work and archives are safe and can be resurrected.
You can post or DM me (Jamie) here. Hopefully, the Ark will be showing up again in another form soon, but hibernation for a bit longer is what the universe is dealing out!

Hello my wonderful Beadsong friends and family.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to announce that I am closing Beadsong. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing the last 24 years of my life have been. Being able to share my love of beads with all of you has brought me more joy and happiness than I can express. You have all been so much more than customers to me, you’ve become dear friends and family and without you I never would have made it this long. Thank you!

I’ll be liquidating my inventory starting Monday April 22nd. Everything (excluding consignments) will be 30% off. Come stock up before it’s all gone!

Our hours for the next few weeks are:
Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 10-5
Closed-Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday

In modern times, we don't regard female musicians as in and of themselves unusual. Our rosters of favorite rockers, pop-stars, solo singer-songwriters, and what have you might well feature as many women as men — or, depending on the subgenre, many more women than men.
