Part 3:
A wee challenge to stop & reflect.
This is part 2 & I know it’s long but I drop a truth bomb of an example at the end.
This might ruffle feathers that’s ok. Sometimes feathers need to ruffle before change can be made.
That’s the thing about change…it means that there’s a better way than what you’ve been doing & let’s face it: it’s hard to say you’ve been doing it wrong.
If you watch this and feel targeted I challenge you to reframe it to ‘maybe there’s a better way and that’s ok’
Not ‘someone says what I’m doing is wrong and I don’t like that’.
‘Maybe there is a better way…and that’s ok.’
Recent experiences have me having lots of thoughts and feelings.
I am also realizing that there is still a huge need for change in early education.
Childcare should NOT be about adult control.
This might ruffle some feathers but ‘control is not the outcome we want…curiosity, independence, wonderment, self regulation….the list of valuable outcomes is long.’

Process Art & Cultivating Curiosity are topics I am extremely passionate about!

🖍️Process Art is a creative movement that emphasizes the process of creating art over the final product. It is a child-directed, choice-driven, and discovery-based approach to art-making, where the focus lies in the creation of the work, not the outcome. In process art, the final product is unique and often unpredictable, and the value lies in the experience of creating, experimenting, and exploring.
One of my rules of play to ensure children are able to safely engage in risky play….approaching common pieces of playground equipment, like swings, the same way I approach risky play.
Kids need to be able to do it themselves.
I am working on a new series for Early Educators & members of the EPC community.
I am frequently asked questions like:
🐝 How can I convince a co-worker to allow children to engage in risky play?
🐝 How can we show co-workers learning does happen outdoors?
🐝 What can I do to help a co-worker embrace messy play when she doesn’t like cleaning up?
These types of questions have inspired me & I want to hear what you say ‘no’ to.
Drop it in the comments below & I just might feature it in my learning series!
Child Led Play doesn’t mean saying yes to everything and chaos pursuing.
How do you turn a ‘no’ into a ‘yes’?
Check out the video below for a specific example of a situation that felt like a no and turned into a ‘yes’ (for some of our students 😁)
