It's almost time! The Big Gay River Float 2024 is THIS SUNDAY and with this heat, this is the escape that you need. The buses are air conditioned and the spring fed San Marco River is a cool 72°. Online ticket sales for the bus will active up until the last bus leaves The Iron Bear and online sales for tickets for those meeting up with us at Texas State Tubes will be active until 3 PM.

NOTE: The portion of the river we float is not included in the San Marcos can ban. But glass and styrofoam are still prohibited. We ask all attendees to help keep the river clear of trash. Mesh bags for trash are available at the start of the float.

Be sure to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated and sunscreen to protect yourself from this hateful sun.

To lower energy use, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas recommends that residents raise their thermostat by a degree or two if safe, refrain from running large appliances such as washing machines and dryers, and turn off and unplug lights and other appliances that aren’t needed.

Join us SUNDAY, JULY 16, 2023 for the 7th annual BIG GAY RIVER FLOAT on the San Marcos River with our friends at Austin Tour Company and Texas State Tubes.

You have two options. The first option is for those who want to ride the bus from Austin. Pickup is at The Iron Bear and drop off is on 4th Street in front of Rain on 4th. The second option is for those who want to drive their own vehicle. It includes tube rentals and a shuttle back to your vehicle.

This year, a portion of proceeds from the float will benefit Equality Texas and Out Youth, to help support their work defending and supporting LGBTQ+ Texans.

The Republican-controlled Senate preliminarily passed SB 162 on Tuesday with a vote of 19-11 after hearing no debate. The bill now awaits its final vote from the full chamber before it could advance to the House.

On this day, 7 years ago, Austin celebrated the ruling by the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges that marriage was a fundamental right for same-s*x couples. This week's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that overturned Roe V. Wade, along with Justice Clarence Thomas' concurring opinion that the Court should revisit the case "to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents," show that the fight for full equality for all LGBTQ+ Americans is far from over.
