World Golf Awards recognises finest golf brands of 2023 at Abu Dhabi ceremony

World Golf Awards – the leading authority that recognises and rewards excellence in golf tourism – has revealed this year’s best golf organisations at its 10th annual Gala Ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

The Australian golfing legend-turned-designer Greg Norman was named ‘Golf Course Designer of the Year’. Serapong Course at Singapore’s Sentosa Golf Club emerged victorious by taking the coveted title of ‘World’s Best Golf Course’.

Chris Frost, Managing Director, World Golf Awards, said: “Abu Dhabi has proven to be a world-class destination for what has been a magnificent gathering of the global golf tourism industry to mark our 10th anniversary of recognizing excellence in golf tourism. Caribbean Escape: Welcome To Bountiful Barbados
Richard Jones discovers the delights of this stunning all year round destination.

Powder-white beaches fringing glistening turquoise waters, brochure-cover sunrises and sunsets, mouth-watering Bajan food and endless rum sours; you don’t have to be a genius to work out why Barbados is the UK’s favourite Caribbean destination.

That said, life on the island has changed a fair bit since my previous visit 18 months ago. Back then, the country was at the tail end of the Covid lockdown, with a 10pm curfew in place and lucrative cruise ships unable to dock in Bridgetown. Thankfully, holidaymakers are now back in their droves, enjoying everything that the relatively new republic offers.
However, the biggest difference I noticed this time around was at my hotel. On my last visit, I had a short tour of O2 Beach Club and Spa during its renovation. The results are nothing short of spectacular, and as a residential guest at Barbados’ coolest five-star resort, I soon drifted into life as a VIP.

Ras Al Khaimah has been emerging as a new holiday destination in recent years, but often remains under the radar compared to other UAE hotspots such as Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

That's not down to the destination one bit, but simply due to the city being on a path not trodden by many tourists.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi offer a huge influx of wealth, luxury shopping, stunning architecture, lively nightlife and never-ending beaches, while the rest of the UAE, for now, remains relatively unknown.

However, that could be about to change as heavy investment in the UAE is seeing it become a must-visit for sports fans, hosting events such as the Dubai Desert Classic, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
But the Middle East as a whole is becoming more and more sport-centred with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf making waves, and the Qatar Football World Cup putting on a show just a couple of months ago.

We recently had the pleasure of adding a round or two of golf into our vacation at Sandals Resorts in Ocho Rios.

Whether you stay at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort or Sandals Royal Plantation you can have unlimited access to play at Upton Estate Golf and Country Club. Situated a short complimentary shuttle bus journey away up in the lush hills you will find fantastic 18 hole course, which boosts rolling fairways lined by sweeping views of the sea and mountains.

With the guidance of exceptional caddy who has been working the course for 30 years, we were able to take on the fairways, and sink our putt's and enjoy a fantastic day of golf. After our round we visited the pro shop (well a sneaky golf shirt as a souvenir had to be purchased), and had a magnificent meal at the brand new restaurant which had just opened, which offered magnificent sweeping views of the course and its tropical surroundings.

We also learnt that nearby Beaches Ocho Rios offers free shuttle to the course. Next year, Sandals Dunn's River, which is due to open in May 2023, will also offer All-Inclusive transfers and access to the golf club. So if you're a club member or play occasional golf back home and love to play on vacation, you must choose to be at one of the above resorts to guarantee your holiday 100% satisfaction.

Legendary golf course architect Ron Kirby, ASGCA, is thrilled to confirm that his most recent design work is completed following a final pre-opening visit to Apes Hill Barbados last month.

The par-72 layout features stunning views over the Caribbean Sea to the west and Atlantic Ocean to the east. Set within 475 acres of natural terrain and perched on one of the highest points of Barbados 1,000 feet above sea level, Apes Hill is the most elevated golf experience on the exquisite island.

Kirby’s visit followed an exclusive opening to the Apes Hill Barbados members and their guests on November 1. DP World Tour Unveils New Match Play Team Event in Abu Dhabi

The DP World Tour today announced the Hero Cup, a new team match play contest aimed at giving European players experience in the format, that will take place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club from January 13-15, 2023.

Two ten-man teams comprising players from Great Britain & Ireland and Continental Europe will be selected by Luke Donald, who will preside over the event in his capacity as 2023 European Ryder Cup Captain, in consultation with the two team captains, who will be named in due course.

Donald will work with both teams in Abu Dhabi and will keep a close eye on the action inside the ropes across the three days, with the contest consisting of one session of foursomes, one session of fourballs and one session of singles matches, with all 20 players taking part in each session.
