Reminder: The deadline for the SCDNR online applications for the 2017 Public Alligator Hunting season and the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Alligator Hunting Season is 11:59 PM on June 15.

The use of paid guides is permitted under the WMA Alligator Special Draw Hunts on Bear Island and Santee Coastal WMAs. All guides are required to obtain a Limited Commercial Use Permit per party for each week prior to the alligator hunt.

The first loggerhead turtle nest of 2017 has arrived! There was a record number of nests last year -- 6,444! Let's hope this year the numbers keep climbing toward the federal Loggerhead Recovery Plan's goal of 9,200 nests.

Walking into my local fishing tackle store just prior to the full moon in May last year I hoped, but didn’t know, if the bream were ‘bedding’ even though the time was right. I carried a cricket cage in each hand simply hoping they had my favorite bream bait.

A reminder this Monday from the SCDNR: "Beginning May 1st, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will begin accepting online applications for the 2017 Public Alligator Hunting season and the 2017 Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Alligator Hunting Season at www.dnr.sc.gov/wildlife/alligator/index.html "
The application will remain open until June 15. The season begins noon on September 9th and runs til noon on October 14th.
Tag your favorite hunting buddy and remind them to apply!
