When Midge Ure has toured America in recent years, it’s usually been completely solo. With just his guitar, he impressed audiences with re-workings of Ultravox classics like “Vienna” and “Reap the Wild Wind,” Visage’s “Fade to Grey,” and his solo material. But this summer, he’ll be embarking on a ‘Band in a Box’ tour with keyboardist Charlie Round-Turner that will allow him to present the music more closely to the original recordings....

Rather than performing solo, Midge Ure will tour with keyboardist Charlie Round-Turner, presenting songs more closely to the original recordings.

15 years ago, I posted this video of a The Simpsons bottle opener with dying batteries (and the scary voice Homer has as a result.) It was recently picked up by the YouTube algorithm, sending it from around 200k views to over a million!

Hear how dying batteries make this talking Homer Simpson beer opener sound freaky.

The members of New Jersey rock group Kanak initially came together working with singer/guitarist Tom Kanach on his solo project, but as the musicians brought their own ideas to the music, it evolved into a true band. Kanak recently released an EP, On The Outside, on which they worked with legendary producer Ed Stasium (The Ramones, Talking Heads, Motörhead, many others)....

Since emerging in the mid-'90s, The Dandy Warhols have been known to explore different music directions from album to album. For their latest release, Rockmaker, the group decided to bring harder guitar riffs into their sound. Initially, the idea was not unanimously accepted within the band, but as work began on the music, things fell into place. The Dandy Warhols were formed in 1994 by singer-guitarist Courtney Taylor-Taylor and guitarist Peter Holmström....

Always open to exploring different music directions from album to album, the group brings harder guitar riffs into their sound.

While many bands commemorate anniversaries by touring classic albums, KMFDM do not see their 40th year as a milestone requiring nostalgia.

On her debut album, Partly Cloudy, Catbells presents a collection of exquisite, emotionally charged dream-pop compositions. Formed in 1978, Comateens were one of NYC’s earliest synth-punk bands. Two of their early songs, “Danger Zone” and “Elizabeth’s Lover,” have recently been reissued by the label Left for Dead. Bassist/vocalist Nicholas West and guitarist Ramona Jan founded Comateens, with Lyn Byrd soon after joining on vocals and synthesizer. Ramona left the group in 1980, going to projects such as Dizzy and the Romilars, Venus Fly Trap (who sang with David Johansen’s Buster Poindexter act) and JANTURAN....

Banned From The Goth Club, the latest release from New Jersey-based Neon Funeral, is a tight collection of songs that brings together numerous post-punk influences. The music has a dark, melodic sound that weaves together guitar, synths and electronic drums. Vocals are aggressive and at times bring to mind hardcore and industrial styles. The four-song EP closes with what might seem to be an odd choice of cover - Eddie Murphy’s 1985 hit “Party All The Time.” That track works surprisingly well, with a moody interpretation that evokes the 80s but thoughtfully filtered through Neon Funeral’s own style....

Broken is the third album from Benjamin Jayne, the musical project of Brattleboro, Vermont-based psychiatrist Benjamin Wright. It presents an evolution in his dark, melancholic sound, with Wright striving for a wider vocal range and working more with electronic elements. Thematically, Broken takes a reflective turn, exploring the complexities of identity and the passage of time. While Benjamin Jayne is now primarily a solo venture, it still benefits from the occasional input of his sister, Amanda Jayne (who was a full collaborator for the first album but is now based in Barcelona.) Drew Skinner again engineered and co-produced, playing a pivotal role in shaping the album’s sonic dimensions....
