We're back!
Wi******er Film Festival returns this November for its 11th season with a new and exciting mix of contemporary award winning short films and feature films that reflect the burning issues of our day.
The central theme this year’s selection is morality, and film has a unique power to encourage us to consider where our own moral boundaries lie. Indeed, one of the films, in the eyes of many, themselves cross moral boundaries.
The first screening on Tuesday 8 November at Wi******er Science Centre, entitled Whispers From Iran, is prompted and inspired by the demonstrations in Iran protesting the death of Mahsa Amini whilst in the custody of the “Morality Police”. The screening offers 4 short films by independent Iranian filmmakers and includes a discussion about how filmmakers navigate censorship in totalitarian regimes to get their message though.
The theme of morality continues in this year’s Z Rated screening on Thursday 10th November at the Hampshire Records Office - a collection of five morally challenging films that promise to raise vastly different reactions from the audience. The screening includes an Oscar nominated short film that divided the nation and was premiered in the UK by Wi******er Film Festival.
For adventurous, open-minded film lovers on Wednesday 9th November there is a Secret Film Night at a mystery venue, with 5 surprising films in store.
Ian’s Magic Box on Saturday 12th November at The Lido offers the audience an opportunity to abandon logic and reason and immerse themselves in 5 wonderfully eccentric films, including two UK premieres, live music and some surprise ‘happenings’.
This year’s featured director is Aleksandra Terpińska, considered one of Poland’s brightest, bravest and most original young filmmakers. Terpińska debuted in Wi******er in 2017 with her mesmerising short film America, followed in 2019 with another multi award winning short The Best Fireworks Ever. On Tuesday 15th November at The Stripe, the festival is proud to screen her debut feature film Other People - a hugely original, cocky, raunchy and fast-paced rap-opera about modern society in which pleasure and pain collide.
Check out our Box Office for concessions and special offers.
