The UAE announced Monday that it would remove its mask wearing rules, according to the country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).

The new rules will come into effect from Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Face mask rules had been in effect for over two and half years.

Masks will still be required in medical facilities and hospitals, mosques, places of worship, and public transport, NCEMA said in a tweet.

Face mask wearing at schools will now also become optional.

Those suspected of infection will still be required to wear a face mask. NCEMA recommends that all people with chronic diseases continue to wear masks.

Heavy rain lashed parts of Dubai and Sharjah on Friday afternoon as an alert was issued over the prospect of "hazardous weather" stretching into the evening.

The National Centre of Meteorology shared footage of motorists navigating stormy conditions amid downpours in Sharjah.

More video clips from the forecaster from across the Emirates showed dark skies as rain poured down and gusts of wind swept in.

The NCM said heavy rain was recorded in the Nazwa area of the emirate shortly before 2pm.

It said there was further heavy rainfall on Emirates Road in Dubai at 2.26pm and more wet weather in the Expo 2020 district.

There was more rain in Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain earlier in the afternoon.

The forecast issued a notice calling for people in parts of Dubai and Sharjah to be on alert over the wet weather.

We’ll have to wait a little while — but the Etihad Rail Passenger service, the train that will link the seven emirates might not be as far away you think — with the recent announcement that lines in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are now connected.

There is no official completion date for the project yet although during a special ‘Projects of the 50’ event held at Expo2020 in December 2021, there were some indicators of intended timeline. It was confirmed that the Rail Passenger Services will be the second phase of the project (after freight) and is expected to carry more than 36.5 million passengers annually, by 2030.

Officials announced last month that the UAE residency visa process was set to be updated, with Emirates ID cards replacing the need for a visa stamp in the passport. And as of May 16, Emirates ID cards have officially replaced residence visa stickers across all emirates – except Dubai.

Rather than needing residency details on the new resident’s visa sticker in a passport, all relevant residency-related information is stored within Emirates ID cards.

For all new applications from May 16, only the Emirates ID application will be required for new residents in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman. Reported by Gulf News, the Federal Authority of Identify, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICA) has announced that there will be one unified form for all new applications for UAE residency and Emirates ID going forward.

However in Dubai, these two applications will continue to be processed separately, at least for now. It’s expected that Dubai will join the rest of the UAE in replacing the passport visa stamp in due course.

Any applications made before May 16 across the UAE will be completed in the traditional format, with new residents or renewing residents still getting the visa sticker pasted into their passport.

The move is part of a wider UAE government shift to upgrade services and achieve customer happiness.
