This story is misleading as far as location... in my own area of Southeast Houston. As a former reporter myself, I think that "South Houston" should only refer to the city of that name or things in it such as the high school. The location is not in Clear Lake either. The apartment is on a street which intersects with Scarsdale near Southeast Memorial Hospital.

For some reason, many streets in the area are named after places in New York state.

A man and woman have been taken to the hospital after being shot in south Houston Friday evening.

This is just one of four pictures I took from the top of the Exxon Building in November of 1967. It includes the the 2016 Main condo building and the Central National Bank building. The bank building, the one with the temperature, housed radio station KTHT (later called KULF.)

There may yet be hope for AM radio, a platform that has seen better days.

A very modern recording of a Ukrainian Christmas song. In 1994, when I had never bought a single Christmas recording, I received a DJ sampler that contained this song. I bought four Chip Davis CD's that year and now have a good selection of Christmas material.

A technical issue... I am finding it difficult to switch from my public page, Houston Retro Radio, and my private page. I need to log out of one to get to the other. I used to move seamlessly between the two.

I have not been able to find a straightforward log in and out page. The only work-around I have is to use a different browser for each page. The net effect has been to discourage spending time adding to this public page.

I still remembered the lyric and melody after not seeing this ad for 60 years. I learned that you get the girl if you carry around a can of Bardahl. Also, the only thing bad guys do is mess with your car engine.

I never recorded Fred Nehas off the radio. Here is what I found on You Tube. Nehas was like a Houston version of Paul Harvey. He normally broadcast in the evening, but he once began a morning broadcast with, "TODAY IS THE DAY TO GO AFTER THAT BIG ONE!" After 50 years, I could still hear that voice in my head.

This article is not very informative as to the history of the Houston parade. I don't always follow local commercial events, but this is the first time I have noticed any mention of an H.E.B. parade.
We certainly have not had such a parade for 72 years. I never even saw an H.E.B. store until I went to Bay City, 80 miles southwest of Houston, in the 1970's. Did they just take over the Foley's parade at some point?

I think of a this scene when I think of women in the military. There has been a nuclear war, and people in Australia are waiting to die. A navy man has a drink with his female assistant. You won't see a scene like this in a current movie.

Here is a handy reference page that you helped pay for. Notice that Hawaii and Puerto Rico do not observe Daylight Saving Time. Neither does most of Arizona. Most of northeast Arizona does, but you have a little "island in time" in the northeast which does not. Indiana used to have a similarly messy situation.

This is one of my Galveston historical photos from 1981, a time when when roller skating was in flower on the seawall. I had only been using a 35mm for a few weeks. I had a Sears camera (made by Ricoh) that had only a manual exposure.

I would point the camera away from the sun to set the exposure, and then maintain the same exposure when shooting into the sun. This was usually a good thing since faces would have a good exposure even though the background might have blown out highlights. This slide only required a little editing.

As a former reporter myself, I don't buy the argument that a random shooting in a slum should have equal news value. This story has it all: a vivacious young girl with her whole life ahead of her, an oily boy friend with limited impulse control... all heavily documented in photos and videos and set in some of the most scenic locales in America.

One of the last times Gabby Petito was seen alive involved an explosive argument between Brian Laundrie and wait staff at a Jackson Hole restaurant, according to a New Orleans couple who said they witnessed the spat.
