Ed9 victory: The Price Of Liberty Is Eternal Vigilance-* Thomas Jefferson

The condition upon which God has given liberty to man is eternal vigilance. On Saturday, the 21st of September, 2024, the people of Edo State through the ballot liberated themselves from the clutches of a political tyrant that held everyone in the state hostage.

The people through the ballot neutralized, counteract, counterbalance, counterpoise or offset the inordinate third term political ambition of a political tyrant veiled in the electioneering contest of his political protégé.

Thus, the outcome of the governorship election held on September 21st in Edo State, was a referendum against the rudderless administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki. Simply put, the result was a collective verdict of the Edo people against bad governance in Edo State in the past seven years under the deliberate watch of the Governor.

It was therefore worrisome, vexatious and nerve-racking to the vast majority of Edo people, when they heard the news of the outgoing Governor's clandestine plan to mobilize thugs to invade INEC headquarters premises in the disguise of protesting against the electoral umpire declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the September 21st governorship election in Edo State.

In the patriotic quest to safeguard the liberty of the Edo people as freely and willingly obtained through the ballot on September 21st, the youths of Edo State across the three senatorial districts marched in one accord to the INEC headquarters premises to keep long hours of vigilance over their collectively newly achieved political liberty.

The youthful Deputy Governor-elect of Edo State, the youngest in the political annals of the State, who was part of the match to secure the political liberty of Edo people addressed the crowd, members of press and security agencies unequivocally;

“We are here at the INEC premises today because as of yesterday, we heard from a reliable source that the current Governor had mobilized thugs to come and invade the INEC premises. And while we are here as concerned Edo youths, we would not allow that to happen. That is why we are here to ensure that there is stability, there is law and order in this place.

“Obaseki is just an individual. He has no monopoly of violence. But we are here as collective Edo youths to protect this facility because on the 21st of last month, elections were held and the APC won in a very huge manner.

“And now the process is over, if they have any dispute whatsoever or any concerns, there are processes to go through that. You cannot turn Edo into a place of unrest.

“So, we are sure that they have finalised all their plans to invade this facility. That is why we are here to join forces with the security agencies to ensure that there is peace and stability in this state.”

At this material time of the current political stage in Edo State, what the people expects from the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, is the constitution of a Transition Committee that will prepare ground for a seamless transfer of power.

Edo people are however taken aback seeing an outgoing Governor that ought to be preparing his handover notes is busy engaging in covert act geared towards the subversion of the will of the Edo people through unconstitutional method.

Therefore, it is of great importance to remind the outgoing Governor Obaseki that the people of Edo State rejected his third term ambition, and democratically elected Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next Govenor to succeed him.

Since both Govenor Obaseki and his protégé are unable to accept their historical defeat in the spirit of sportsmanship, they should take their case to the election tribunal.

It's noteworthy to state that Edo, that was physically and palpably enveloped in fear is now serene since the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next Govenor of Edo State.

The ordinary people in the streets, traders, artisans, students, workers and famers are all happy that one of their own have been elected as Governor of Edo State.

Tempers that were hitherto raised to a boiling point have suddenly calmed down and what is left is the lamentations of wailing wailers!

*Nigeria@64: Edo State Governor-elect pay tribute to Edo people, congratulates Nigerians*

The Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has once again extended his profound gratitude to the great people of Edo State, for his historic landmark victory at the polls on Saturday, the 21st of September, 2024. The Senator made the statement on Tuesday to commemorate Nigeria's 64th Independence Day Anniversary.

"Fellow Edolites and dear residents of our beloved state;

"On this special day, after our historic landmark victory at the polls, I wish to once again express my gratitude, for this great privilege to address you as the Governor-elect of Edo State on this auspicious occasion of Nigeria's 64th Independence Day celebration.

"Undoubtedly, Nigeria is still a work in progress and we are challenged everyday to keep building despite the various challenges and obstacles that we face. If we look back over the years, we can say confidently that there is every reason to be thankful to God in the past 64 years of our nationhood."

The Governor-elect seized the auspicious occasion to once again extend his hand of fellowship to other candidates who contested with him in the just concluded governorship election in Edo State.

"Our diversity in 1960 became a source of strength, and the new leaders as at that time resolved to carry the flag of independence for the benefit of future generations. Of course, they had their differences, but they placed a greater premium on the need to come together to build a new Nigeria.

"Today, I wish to sieze this auspicious moment to once again stretch forth my hand of fellowship to my brothers who contested with me in the September 21st Edo governorship election with a view to join hands together to build a new Edo of our collective dream.

"My prospective administration will be open to ideas and positive suggestions that will help to shape and move Edo State forward. The governorship election is over, it is time to come together to fix our beloved state. We have a duty as Edolites, and whatever may be our political differences or prejudices, we must always put Edo first!

"Our politics should be an art of patriotic labour and selfless service to the people, particularly by the political elites who are placed in positions of great trust and responsibility."

According to Senator Okpebholo, "the journey of nationhood is a marathon, which requires patience, resilience, tolerance and determination. The challenges of this time cannot be compared to the limitless progress and prosperity ahead of all us.

"Therefore, I humbly urge all to be patient with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because his administration is committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate the suffering of all Nigerians. Mr President's well-intentioned policies and initiatives are tailored towards the greater good of all Nigerians."

The Governor-elect assures the people of Edo State and residents that his administration will engender a new lease of life.

"I want to assure the great people of Edo State and residents that my administration will offer a new lease of life and opportunity to renew our drive towards attaining greater heights and secure our shared dreams and common vision.

"I have an unshakable belief in the future of our great State. Therefore, I shall devote the totality of my being to create a buoyant Edo where both indegene and non-indigene, the rich and not-so-rich, and the poor, will engage in pursuit of happiness unhindered by any form of primordial classification.

"I am confident that Nigeria will surely be a source of pride to its citizens; to Africa and the Black Race and to Humanity; a land that is known for freedom, progress, peace and the promotion of human dignity."

Senator Okpebholo futher congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of this year's Independence day anniversary, and urge citizens to remain steadfast and rediscover that special spirit that enables us to triumph over every adversity as a people with shared hope and aspiration.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU RECEIVES EDO GOV-ELECT, TASKS HIM ON DEVELOPMENT

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Edo State governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to prioritise the development of his state while assuring him of the full support of the Federal Government and the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).

President Tinubu advised on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress party, where the Edo governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect, Rep. Dennis Idahosa, presented their certificates of return.

President Tinubu emphasised the importance of good governance and delivering results to the people of Edo State.

‘’Governor-elect, you can now face the task of development. We are here to work with you. You have seen the progressive governors of APC. They are truly progressive. Work with them. Learn the ropes, and I believe you are up to the task,'' he said.

Acknowledging the challenges of democracy, particularly in emerging economies like Nigeria, the President added, ''You have earned the victory. Democracy is difficult, particularly in emerging democracies and economies like ours.

''If you hear complaints from places like America, you know how difficult it is to navigate democracy. But it remains the best form of government. ''

The President congratulated Senator Okpebholo and his deputy and described them as a ''good symbol of people ordained by God to work together.''

''You started as rivals and ended us as partners. You are a symbol of good understanding in politics; the man at our party's helm has been through it before.

''In Kano, he was a front runner, became a second runner, and became a deputy before he eventually became a governor,'' he said.

President Tinubu acknowledged the role played by former Edo state governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the progressive governors and the APC leadership in the successful outcome of the gubernatorial election in Edo.

''I saw Adams Oshiomhole radiating in joy… sincerely the governors showed up in Edo, they impressed me. They defended the party. They worked hard for the party,'' he remarked.

President Tinubu also commended INEC and the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and organised election, with no reports of violence or disturbances.

''I must thank the security agencies. There was no bloodshed, no riot, people voted and went back to their houses in peace, and the fears dissipated instantly, '' he said.

The President urged the party leadership and membership to remain united and focused on achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.

''Never mind the noise makers. I do a lot of statistical sampling and results. When you hear politicians saying ‘all politics is local’, you must respect that notion.

''When you see the stability in the Edo North senatorial district, we see a man that won the Central senatorial district and a candidate who has won a seat in the south senatorial district; we did a match- which turned out to be a winning match,'' he said.

President Tinubu also commented on the heavy downpour on Election Day in Edo and the electorate's commitment to voting in the rain without using an umbrella.

''It is a very punching illustration,'' the President said, referring to remarks made by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje, about the election-day rains in Edo.

In his remarks, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje, the party's national chairman, commended the leadership and support of the President, the governors, and all stakeholders.

''On the day of the election, there was an exciting scenario: it was raining heavily, yet people came out to vote without using an umbrella. Your Excellency, the people were convinced that our party is the party to be voted for, and we won the election, '' he said.

The APC National chairman noted that the party’s next focus is securing victories in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Ondo and Anambra states.

''The election in Anambra is part of our programme, ' Political de-marginalization of Southeast geopolitical zone.’

''Having only two states in the Southeast as APC is too small for us. We need more states from the Southeast geo-political zone,'' he said.

PRESS RELEASE

EDO ELECTION: POLICE ARREST POLITICAL THUGS, RECOVERS FI****MS IN OVERNIGHT RAIDS, VOWS TO DEAL WITH ILLEGAL ARMS BEARERS AND TROUBLE MAKERS

The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs, namely: Edwin Obanor, 43-year-old and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old PDP member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.

Acting on a tip-off that some individuals had been armed to cause mayhem and distability during the election on Saturday, the police operatives swooped into action and apprehended Obanor, a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 at about 9pm and Audu Tajudeen at Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election. Upon searching the bags in their possession, three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols were discovered on Obanor, while one locally made gun was recovered from Tajudeen.

These arrests are a testament to the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State.

The suspects are currently in custody and will face the full weight of the law. The Police reassures the public of its dedication to protecting lives and property and, therefore, urges citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via our published help lines.

*Governors are main cause of hardship —Edo APC campaign director.*

_Director of Communication and National Orientation of the 2024 Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council, Prince Kelly Udebhulu, in this interview with IDAHOSA MOSES, talks about the potential gains of oil subsidy removal against the backdrop of the recent nationwide protest against economic hardship._

*The variation of the protest is that the Federal Government is responsible for the plagues, hence the nationwide street protesters directed their aggression at his administration as the cause of the protests. What is your take on this?*

*"Ordinarily, as the most senior of a th*****me government in a federation, the federal government should be called to question on such issues. But, the 36 state governments, including the federal capital territory (FCT), should also be held responsible for the poverty – hunger, runaway inflation and economic hardships in the country."*

*What informed your position?*

*"It is not just my position alone, but there is empirical evidence to buttress it. Two years before the nationwide protest actions, the 2022 Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report, had categorised the state governments and FCT as the ones that are collectively most blameworthy for the acute poverty in the country, than the federal government, who many people wrongly accuse as the main cause."*

16/09/2024

Ribadu sues Edo PDP chairman Aziegbem, demands N10b damages.

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA) of Nigeria, has filed a lawsuit against Anthony Aziegbemi, the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in response to allegations that the presidency, through the NSA and the DSS, plans to manipulate the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Aziegbemi’s statement, titled “EDO 2024: PRESIDENCY’S MOVE TO INTERFERE, MANIPULATE GUBER POLL USING DSS, NSA UNCOVERED,” claims that Ribadu directed the release of $2 million to the APC candidate for vote-buying and bribing security agencies.

In a letter from Charles Musa and Co., the legal representatives of Ribadu, the firm condemned the defamatory statement, which has significantly harmed Ribadu’s reputation by falsely depicting him as a facilitator of corruption and his office as involved in political interference in Edo State.

Charles Musa and Co. emphasized that these allegations are baseless and contradict Ribadu’s well-established reputation for integrity and his commitment to fighting corruption.

They highlighted Ribadu’s distinguished career as the former Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and his dedication to ethical conduct as evidence against the claims.

The letter said: “We write on behalf of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (our Client), in response to your press statement titled “EDO 2024: PRESIDENCY’S MOVE TO INTERFERE, MANIPULATE GUBER POLL USING DSS, NSA UNCOVERED.”

“The publication falsely alleges, inter alia, that, “$2m was ordered to be released to the APC candidate by the NSA to buy votes and bribe security agencies.”

“This malicious and libellous Statement has brought our Client into public disdain and odium. Your portrayal of our Client as a corruption enabler and his office as an appendage of a political party willing to cause chaos in Edo State is entirely false and damaging to his reputation.

“As a renowned career police officer and pioneer Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), our Client has consistently demonstrated integrity and a commitment to fighting corruption. It is inconceivable that he would be involved in such odious acts.

“Given the extensive damage your false and baseless allegations have caused our client, we demand:

“A written apology to our Client.

“A full retraction of the publication in its entirety.

“Publication of the retraction in:

“A full-page advertorial in at least five nationwide newspapers.

“Ten reputable and well-read online news sites.

“Seven national and international television stations.

“Ten radio channels with national and international reach.

“Payment of N10,000,000,000 (Ten Billion Naira) as damages for reputational and other injuries. Take notice that if our demands are not met within seven days, we shall proceed with our Client’s further instructions, including taking legal action to enforce his rights.”
