News Flash: CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT PLANS TO PROMOTE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

Yesterday, 1st of September, 2023 the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Barr. Ukam Ijom Charles, was live on air, and he spoke on some of the ways that the CRS government planned to promote youth Development.

FM: CURBING YOUTHS RESTIVENESS IN CRS.

: How do you intend to curb youths restiveness in CRS?

: By creating the awareness that the future belongs to the youths and that it must not be destroyed by them; sensitizing them to the fact the future and its nature depend on the decisions and choices they make; creating in them a sense of history, especially of the noble and heroic contributions of the youth in the past to the socioeconomic and sociopolitical development of CRS.

: How do you intend to achieve this?

:
1. The ministry of Youths Development will enhance information flow among youths through seminars, workshops, and lectures.

2. Ensure equitable distribution of information and telecommunication facilities in both urban and rural areas;
integrate available sources of information to enhance accessibility and visibility of youth information needs.

3. Ensure that every youth development policy has an information and communication component; increase opportunities for entrepreneurial development among youth.

4. Give access to credit facilities and other support mechanisms to young investors.

5. Increase allocations for youth development and youth-related programme.

6. Use all channels of information to enlighten youths on the adverse effects of acts of rebellion; partner with multinationals to ensure the development of functional and well-equipped libraries in all educational institutions.

7. Ensure accessibility of information for skill acquisition, self employment, job opportunities, and self-reliance among youth.

: What are the specific areas you intend to focus on in your youth empowerment programs?

*Commissioner for Youths Development speaks on Circular Economy Solutions for Nigeria as Efik Leadership Foundation Celebrates to commemorate Int'l Youths Day.*

Earlier on 28th August, 2023 at American Corner, Women Development Center, Calabar; the Commissioner for Youths Development, Hon. Barr. Odum Ijom Ukam graced the occasion of Efik Leadership Foundation in commemoration of International Youths Day.

The event was well attended to by Youths with representatives from LIONS Club, YNEL, Arise News, YALI - CRS, Eco Heroes Club, NYCN - CRS Chapter, APC Youth Parliament - CRS, CRBC Radio/TV, CRS Youth Parliament, Ministry of youths development, youths from Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, and Odukpani LGA and many other groups.

Barr. Ukam Ijom Charles spoke on the theme: CIRCULAR ECONOMY SOLUTIONS FOR NIGERIA: Reducing Waste, Boosting Efficiency.

While he informed the Youths that the responsibility saddled on the ministry of Youths development among others is to be at the forefront of Chatting the roadmap for the development of Youths of Cross River State, he also assure the Youths that he's positive of the governor's keen interest and passion for the development of the Youths. He went on to say that his principal, The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu has a well mapped out bogus and lofty programmes for the Youths of CRS.

Speaking on the theme, he rephrased the theme into an Efik adage which says "Mkpo ke mbio" which means there are so much to be derived from waste. He noted that So much wealth can be made from waste and that the waste of today is the raw material for tomorrow. Given that out of all the waste generated in Nigeria, only roughly about 10% is being recycled, so that Waste to Wealth is possible if adequate attention is given on this area of wealth generation by harnessing the strength of the youths while helping to curb unemployment". I WILL DELIVER ON MY MANDATE: YOUTHS COMMISSIONER ASSURES

The Cross River State Commissioner for Youths Development, Hon. Bar. Odum Ijom Ukam said he is working round the clock to ensure that he deliver on his mandate given him by the State Government. The Youths Development which is a critical area that need attention, will be put into consideration in accordance with Government Policies and Programmes of activities that are aimed at providing social services for developmental achievements.

Bar Ukam stated this when the former Member representing Biase State Constituency in Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mkpanam O.Ekpo, led a delegation of Umon Kingdom on a Courtesy Visit to his Office. He assured that the Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu has a clear Vision towards the development of the Youths across the State. About two thousand Youths will definitely be trained quarterly on skill acquisition and empowerment programmes to add value to their lives.

Addressing the Stakeholders of Umon North, Bar Ukam said he's humbled for the honour given him, he maintained that the Youths as the strength of Government, always played significance role for good governance. He commended the Umon North for the good Job they did in the success of the last election. He urged the Stakeholders to continue with their maximum support for Senator Otu led administration to succeed. Adding that they should not relent in the advised and prayers they gave him that has help him over the years, this is the time he need them most.

Speaking earlier, the Leader of the delegation, Rt. Hon. Mkpanam O. Ekpo said the Umon North Kingdom is grateful to His Excellency for appointing Bar Ukam as Commissioner for Youths Development. They came to identify with him on these remarkable appointment that will create impact in the lives of the Youths as leaders of the future generation.
