Drinking warm tea and trying to keep my body warm hasn’t done much to cure my sore throat. Despite all my efforts, I still feel unwell, so I even ended up getting an IV drip at the hospital yesterday. It feels like, at this rate, I might lose my voice completely, like the Little Mermaid.

If I were to describe my current condition, I think this Korean proverb sums it up perfectly:

“I feel like the inner leaves of a wilted napa cabbage.”

Lately, I've been feeling a strong need to exercise, so I decided to work out with a friend at the gym. My friend has even won awards at fitness competitions, so he's got a lot of muscle and takes excellent care of his health.

“Paul! Great decision! At our age, we really need to exercise! Let's try deadlifts—they're the best for strengthening your back and lower body!”

“Ahhh… Sorry! I don’t think I can do it! I feel like I'll hurt my back lifting this barbell.”

“Paul! Don’t be scared! First, stand in front of the barbell and spread your feet.”

Even though my friend kindly explained it to me, I felt hesitant about trying a new exercise.

“Sorry! I’m not doing it! I don’t think exercise is for me. I’d rather just read a book.”

“Paul, you need to build muscle before you get any older! Okay, how about we do just a few squats today? They’re the best for lower body strength!”

I wanted to say, “I don’t think exercise is for me,” but since my friend was so passionate about teaching me, I couldn’t say anything. I just had to go along and do as he said.
