IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: (and please circulate!)

NASTY WOMAN PRESS is planning a NEW ANTHOLOGY ... one that focuses on the American Library Association's UNITE AGAINST BOOK BANS initiative. The initative, in fact, is the target benefactor of the money we hope to raise with this book.

Book challenges often target writers of color and LGBTQIA+ authors. If you're unfamiliar with the ongoing war against history and the attempt to silence voices speaking about critical race theory, gender affirmation, and more, please take a look at the information in the link below.

The general idea is for authors to write essays about the challenged books that have most influenced them or to contribute some short fiction (with a brief introduction) that shows the influence of favorite banned or challenged works.

We are in the planning stages now, but hopefully--if interest is strong enough!--we will be asking for submissions, as well as sending out invitations to participate. The working title for this project is called BANNED AT THE BAR. :)

Please stay tuned for details and developments, and drop a comment if you're interested in this as a reader or writer ... we can't mount a year-long effort without community passion behind us!

I love this series and highly recommend it. If you are not familiar with the slow cadence, wry/sometimes sardonic humor, and wonderfully “outside the hoop” kind of conversation many Indigenous have, give it some time to grow on you. Sometimes time is a character in this series!
I feel so lucky to know some of these talented artists and am so happy to see their work on the screen!

Tomorrow marks the commencement of the final season of Reservation Dogs. This powerful series has spoken volumes to our hearts, striking a deep chord by showcasing our humor, our close-knit community, and the intricacies of life on the rez.

Remembering our creative resistance anthology—this award-winning fist-in-the-air release from NASTY WOMAN PRESS.
My short story in it, WILD WOMB, about an woman’s attempt to control her reproductive life and the grave consequences that follow, was eerily prescient.
Written and published before SCOTUS’s disastrous “make women less again” ruling to overturn Roe, WILD WOMB tells the story of a young mother of two with an abusive alcoholic husband in a Catholicized native culture.
The tale begins when sleuth Jamaica Wild finds this woman bruised and bloody, arm broken, wandering barely conscious on BLM land abutting the pueblo.
At the same time, tribal police find her husband dead under mysterious circumstances, cause of death unknown.
It’s a mystery with a surprising twist — and with women’s rights as backstory. When I wrote it, and when this tome was published, those rights were still protected under the constitution. Today, they are not. WILD WOMB is more timely than ever.
