What You Focus On Expands: The Power of Your RAS

Our minds are constantly filtering the world, deciding what’s important and what isn’t. It’s called the Reticular Activation System (RAS)—your brain’s internal filter.

Here’s how it works:

You buy a new car, and suddenly, you see that same car everywhere.
You pick up a new hobby—like me riding my Harley—and now, you notice motorcycles on every street.
The bikes were always there. So were the cars. But until you gave them meaning, your brain deleted them from your awareness.

Your RAS is like a spotlight. It highlights what you think is important and dims everything else. If you focus on challenges, all you’ll see are obstacles. But if you focus on opportunities, you’ll start to see possibilities everywhere.

So, the question is: What are you choosing to focus on?

Your Story Matters More Than You Think

When you share your story, you’re not just sharing your journey—you’re giving someone else hope.

Someone out there is working a job they don’t love, thinking, “I could never start a business. That life isn’t for me.” But hearing your story could change their entire mindset.

That’s why storytelling isn’t just speaking—it’s showing what’s possible.

Platforms like Coffee & Grit and spaces like Speakeasy Podcast Studio studio give entrepreneurs a way to amplify their voice and inspire others who might feel stuck. None of us excel at everything, and that’s okay. What matters is having a community that helps you share your passion.

Your story could be the spark that makes someone believe, “If they can do it, so can I.”

So, what’s your story?

The Real Story Behind Coffee & Grit – It’s Not Just a Podcast

Some people see business owners and think, "Must be nice." They assume entrepreneurship means instant success and endless money.

But those of us on the inside know the truth—the struggle, the grind, the early mornings, and the late nights fueled by caffeine and resilience.

That’s where Coffee & Grit was born. I saw entrepreneurs who had incredible stories but no content to share them. So, I grabbed a GoPro and started recording those conversations—coffee in hand, grit in the air. What started as a simple idea has grown into something intentional: a platform for entrepreneurs to share their real journeys.

Because at the end of the day, success isn’t built on flash—it’s built on grit and a whole lot of coffee.

What fuels your journey?

Leadership Lessons: You Can’t Force Growth

As a leader, I’ve often found myself caring more about someone’s potential than they did. I’d try to lead them to water and force them to drink because I could see how much they needed it. But here’s the truth: You can’t make someone drink if they aren’t ready. And when you try to force it, you risk drowning them in your efforts.

Leadership is about guiding, inspiring, and creating opportunities—but it’s not about forcing change. Some people just aren’t ready, and that’s okay. The best thing you can do is bless and release them, focusing your energy on those who are thirsty for growth and willing to take the next step.

Leadership isn’t about dragging people across the finish line; it’s about empowering them to take the journey themselves.
