🌐 Selling Beyond eBay: Exploring Thriving Reselling Platforms 🛒
Are you ready to take your reselling game to the next level? 🚀 While eBay might be your go-to, there's a treasure trove of other online platforms waiting to help you turn items into profits. Today, let's dive into the world of alternative reselling platforms and uncover what makes each one unique.
5. Etsy: 🎨
Starting at #5, I have Etsy.
Crafters and artisans, this one's for you. Etsy is the ultimate destination for handmade, vintage, and unique items. If you've got a knack for crafting, or if you find vintage treasures that deserve a loving home, Etsy's passionate community is ready to discover your offerings.
When it first launched it was mostly ONLY for handmade items, but now it has transitioned to accept a variety of thrifted items.
The biggest difference for me between Etsy and the others is that they charge you $0.20 per listing as a listing fee, so if you list quite a lot, but they don't end up selling, you will be out some money.
4. Facebook Marketplace: 🏠
Coming in at #4, I have Facebook Marketplace
Want to connect with local buyers? Facebook Marketplace is your virtual garage sale. It's ideal for larger and heavier items like furniture, appliances, signs and even vehicles. Plus, the convenience of connecting with nearby buyers can lead to quick and easy sales.
I've just started scratching the surface on selling with shipping through Facebook and I've found that it's actually quite easy and profitable for sellers!
Facebook only charger 5% sales fees on your item vs the 10-15% you'll pay on all of the other reseller apps
The downside of Facebook is that there are alot more scammers, and window shoppers asking you: "is this still available?" And then fading into the ether. If you can deal with the small annoyances then it can actually be quote a good platform to make money on.
3. Poshmark: 🛍️
At Number #3, I have Poshmark
Love fashion? Poshmark could be your style haven. This social commerce platform focuses on clothing, shoes, and accessories. The interactive community vibe makes it a great space to showcase your fashion finds. From street style to high-end couture, Poshmark is where fashion enthusiasts gather to buy, sell, and connect.
I personally have had a poshmark account since I started reselling, but not very many sales. It's a very hard to understand platform, with a unique community of sellers. When you first join they will have HUNDREDS of accounts automatically "follow" you and make you feel bvery popular. You will also get hundreds of notifications letting you know that people have shared your listings. But very few people actually buy.
I've read many guides about how to maximize your poshmark and they all revolve around building your following, sharing, and doing live shows where you can interact with customers and discount/sell your items during the show.
If you're into that kind of thing it might be a great platform for you, but for me it's one of my lowest producers.
2. Depop: 📸
At #2, I have Depop
Gen Z's reselling paradise! Depop combines social media aesthetics with a marketplace vibe. Perfect for fashion-forward finds, unique vintage, and streetwear. With its photo-driven approach, Depop lets you showcase your items like they're part of an artful collection.
I actually REALLY love Depop! It's very fun and you are actually encouraged to be creative with your images instead of the plain white background they expect you to use on eBay and Mercari for the algorithm.
Lots of sellers use colorful background, or even model the clothing themselves! It's definitely a platform for a you get generation, but I've done really well on it, and love using it daily! I highly recommend.
1.Mercari: 📦
Finally, at #1, I have Mercari!
If you're looking for a diverse range of categories, Mercari has you covered. From electronics and beauty products to home goods, this platform welcomes a wide variety of items. The easy-to-use interface and straightforward listing process make it a popular choice for both buyers and sellers.
I personally consider Mercari the "Newer, Cleaner, Faster eBay". I love it! You can list almost everything there, and there are a ton of seller tools to help you make sales and view your statistics.
It's very easy to see who has liked your items, and how many people have viewed them, which helps me decide whether or not my prices are right. The messaging system is smooth and easy. And my #1 most appreciated feature is that whenever a sale is completed Mercari ASKS your customer to rate you and if they don't, mercari will rate you themselves for the transaction!! I can't tell you how many sales I've made in eBay without any positive feedback just because the people were too busy or lazy to rate the transaction, that doesn't happen on Mercari.
Each of these platforms comes with its own flavor, attracting different audiences and catering to various niches. The secret sauce to succeeding on any platform lies in understanding its unique dynamics and tailoring your approach accordingly.
So, what's your niche? Whether you're into fashion, vintage, crafts, or home goods, there's a platform that's just right for you. Dive in, explore, and let your items find their new homes while you make a profit doing what you love! 💰🌟
