In a major breakthrough, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) on Monday conducted raid at hotel The Avalon, Durg and nabbed two directors and a technical advisor of a technical college and three officials of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Bhopal under Anti Corruption Act. The CBI also recovered Rs. 12 lakh cash and 12 gold coins weighing 100 gm each. The accused have been identified as Praveen Vishwakarma, Director; Sanjeev Kulhad, Technical Advisor of Sai Shikshan Samiti; Sushil Chandrakar, Director of Bharti College of Engineering and Technology; Sanjay Soni, Manoj Kushwaha and Rajesh Singh, all officials of AICTE.

According to information, the four officials of AICTE posted at Bhopal were reported staying in room No. 203 in hotel The Avalon for the last couple of days. They were in Durg for conducting inspection of the technical colleges functioning in the twin cities of Bhilai and Durg. It is learnt that the AICTE officials found several anomalies in the functioning of the technical institutes run by Sai Shikshan Samiti, Bhilai and Bharti College of Engineering and Technology. The AICTE officials were learnt to have warned the technical colleges of stringent actions if they fail to follow the norms of AICTE. Moreover, sources further informed that the Directors of the technical college wanted the AICTE officials to renew the affiliation of their colleges.

Sources also informed that following the inspection, the authorities of technical institutes tried to manage the AICTE officials by offering bribe. It was in this context that the authorities of technical college visited hotel The Avalon and tried to strike a deal. However, on a tip off, the CBI conducted raid at the hotel at about 8 am today and unearthed the deal. At the time of the raid, three officials of AICTE and three authorities of the technical college were available in the hotel. One among the four officials, Yogesh Garg, was reported left the hotel today morning. During the raid, the CBI officials recovered Rs. 12 lakh cash and 12 gold coins weighing 100 gm each. The CBI after registering a case under section 7 (12) of Anti Corruption Act booked the accused and are further investigating the case.

The CBI team was led by LM Manji, SP CBI; Rajesh Kumar, DSP; Sandeep Murrey, Sanjay Sinha and Ashish Rastogi, Inspectors and AK Nanda, Sub Inspector, CBI.

The Hitavada (The People's Paper), is the largest selling leading broadsheet English daily of Central India,[1]. Founded in 1911 by freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale in Nagpur[2] the newspaper was taken over by Purohit and Company, owned by Banwarilal Purohit, the former BJP MP from Nagpur.In 2011, it completed its 100 years & celebrated its centenary festival which was inaugurated by Mrs. Pratibha Patil, the President of India.

The Hitavada was started in the central Indian city of Nagpur by freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale as an independent newspaper. It was the first and the only English daily of Nagpur. In the mid 20th century, it was competed by another English daily Nagpur Times, which was later shut down due to bankruptcy. The Hitavada was in the late 20th century taken over by Banwarilal Purohit, who later became the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha under BJP. The Hitavada, today, is the largest selling English broadsheet daily of Central India and Nagpur, though it faces a stiff competition from Indian Express, The Times of India, and Lokmat Times.

The Hitavada, today, is simultaneously published from the cities of Nagpur, Jabalpur, Raipur, and Bhopal. Every city edition carries a special supplement called City Line that deals with the local city news and engagements. The Hitavada also has regional editions:
1. Vidarbha Line"", distributed outside the Metropolitan areas of Nagpur and rest of Vidarbha
2. Chattisgarh Line, distributed in Chattisgarh
3. Madhya Prades Line, distributed in Bhopal and other areas surrounding Jabalpur
The other supplements include Money (Mondays), Future (Tuesdays), Woman's World (Wednesdays), Twinkle Star (Saturdays), Insight (Sundays). It also distributes a supplement called The Knowledge Magazine in schools, especially meant for children.
