All Things Rho I'm a wife and a mum. Two titles I will forever hold dear. It's not a story of my beginning but stories of how I navigate my 40's. Life. Love. Disappointments.

Fears, joys, daily conundrum. I don't know what the future holds but I feel good about it.

Having kids is the most rewarding and the most thankless job I know. It takes a lot to raise decent human beings. They make it worthwhile though. Every challenging step of the way.

I believe every person goes through a phase where you feel sh*tty about your past. Bad choices. Stupid decisions. Unbelievable mistakes.

I hate mine, God knows I do. And I don’t embrace my mistakes at all. But lessons were learned and I got to know myself better.

And for more than a decade now, it’s all that matters. The road to self-respect seemed so unreachable at that time and that true happiness was all but an illusion. But life proves your negative mindset wrong, thank goodness.

If you are reading this, I hope you find your peace. And that you find a way to never let the security of that peace go.

Now this is a boy worth hailing.

When Antonio Gwynn Jr. saw the damage from protests in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, he grabbed a broom, bought some trash bags and started cleaning the streets by himself.

We have been quarantined for months and although I don’t mind, I do miss traveling. Not gonna lie; it’s probably the thing I miss the most. I mean, yes, I miss my friends but I still get to talk to them. I don’t get to travel at all.

I have been to many places but I haven’t traveled everywhere. So out of pining for traveling, I’m easing my desire to go out by just imagining where I would go when we are all allowed to travel across countries again.

1. New Zealand

The thing that irritates me whenever I think about it is that I’ve lived in Australia several times and I actually did not go to New Zealand. I know; huge facepalm moment. It’s always been at the top of my places to visit. I have made a few friends from NZ and I know that when the moment comes, I will not hesitate to ask for advice and opinions as to where to go and which places to visit from a local’s point of view. The issue I do have is I’m not sure a month of vacation is enough to explore the place. So we should go there when my husband can take more than a month off from work. And yes. I’ll drag him and the kids to Hobbiton.

2. Fiji Islands

Among all the countries in this list, Fiji is the one I have the least idea about and the one I’m most unlikely to visit. All I know is that I have fallen in love with every photo I’ve seen of Fiji. Dang it. This is another place I should’ve visited when I was in Australia. Sigh.

Before quarantine started, I checked how much the flights are from here to Fiji. Well, they’re very expensive and the travel is very long. My husband is not so keen in visiting the place so I could very well just be by myself or with my friends. I don’t know when that would be but I really do hope I can do it while I’m in my 40’s.

3. Ireland

The plan 2 years ago was to visit both Iceland and Ireland. But my husband only had three weeks of vacation and we still needed to go back home to visit our family. So we spent two weeks in Iceland and postponed our plans for visiting Ireland. But we shall go there as a family. Fingers crossed.

4. Chile

There are only 2 continents I haven’t been to and those are Antarctica and South America. Now, in all honesty, I have no desire whatsoever to go visit Antarctica. There are several countries in South America, however, that I want to visit. And yes, Chile is at the top of that list. Peru is a close second.

5. Japan

There’s a very specific time of the year when I want to visit Japan: during the cherry blossoms. I am not into visiting Tokyo but places that screams rural Japanese charm like Kyoto and Osaka appeal to me a lot. There have been several occasions we could’ve gone to Japan but we seem to go somewhere else. Hmm. It’s still in my bucket list.

So what’s yours? And when we can all travel, which places will you be hitting next?

A few years ago, the kids were old enough for me to put up my own business. I did and closed it. Then I opened one again with two business partners and we are struggling, like a lot of small businesses. We did expect that.

What we did not expect is how we will be treated by banks when we tried to open a business account.

We wanted to open an account where we don't have to put in much money because let's face it, we don't want to ask money from our sponsors (i.e. husbands, dads). That's why we put up a business; after years of taking care of the family, we want to earn once more, like we did before we had children.

Sure, we had to submit our documents, which is normal. Then we had to submit documents from our sponsors. Copies of passports, IDs, bank statements the last 6 months, proof of address, etc. Effing document after document. Believe me, they have enough info to know exactly where our sponsors p*e at any given time of the day. When we have submitted everything they asked for, they sent more “requests” that they need more so and so documents. We called DOZENS of times to state their requests don't make sense but cannot reach any human at all. Just automated messages.

See, we were all housewives for years, if not decades, and are now building a business. We just want to open a damn business account. We are not interested in making a loan. We have no plans whatsoever to rob the banks. Again, we just want to open a business account where we can PUT MONEY IN when the clients pay us.

You’d think that banks would be AT THE VERY LEAST helpful in assisting us since, you know, we'll be clients.

Joke’s on us.

When we do find that bank, though. The bank that would make it easy and would be helpful to women who've been out of the workforce for years but now put up businesses and want to work again. Sigh. I will advertise the living crap out of that one and not ask for a single dime.

Blink.

That’s what I did. I blinked and my daughters are now tweens.

Sometimes, I wish I can physically hold time in my hands, cradle it — maybe choke it a little — before setting it free with one last smack in the butt with a cast iron pan.

One minute, I was biting little toes and getting grossed out by pooped nappies (okay, wait; I’m still grossed out by this) and then the next minute, I’m talking to my daughters about friendship, fashion and future.

Don’t get me wrong. I love that our conversations are not one-sided anymore. It’s hella nice to ask questions and not be met by babbling and usage of dead languages. It’s just, you know. They’re my babies. They were just babies! It all went too fast and too slow at the same time.

So I’m writing this down because I feel like I’m gonna blink again and, p**f! They’re off to college.

Somebody give me a foolproof way to catch time and make the little sucker stand still for a bit.
