=======
A few years ago, the kids were old enough for me to put up my own business. I did and closed it. Then I opened one again with two business partners and we are struggling, like a lot of small businesses. We did expect that.
What we did not expect is how we will be treated by banks when we tried to open a business account.
We wanted to open an account where we don't have to put in much money because let's face it, we don't want to ask money from our sponsors (i.e. husbands, dads). That's why we put up a business; after years of taking care of the family, we want to earn once more, like we did before we had children.
Sure, we had to submit our documents, which is normal. Then we had to submit documents from our sponsors. Copies of passports, IDs, bank statements the last 6 months, proof of address, etc. Effing document after document. Believe me, they have enough info to know exactly where our sponsors p*e at any given time of the day. When we have submitted everything they asked for, they sent more “requests” that they need more so and so documents. We called DOZENS of times to state their requests don't make sense but cannot reach any human at all. Just automated messages.
See, we were all housewives for years, if not decades, and are now building a business. We just want to open a damn business account. We are not interested in making a loan. We have no plans whatsoever to rob the banks. Again, we just want to open a business account where we can PUT MONEY IN when the clients pay us.
You’d think that banks would be AT THE VERY LEAST helpful in assisting us since, you know, we'll be clients.
Joke’s on us.
When we do find that bank, though. The bank that would make it easy and would be helpful to women who've been out of the workforce for years but now put up businesses and want to work again. Sigh. I will advertise the living crap out of that one and not ask for a single dime.
