Drawing A Blank: SAGU Cinema's first feature length film

Hey guys! I just want to take a moment to share this with you! This is the latest film coming out of Southwestern Cinema and it looks freaking amazing! Please take a few minutes and read through their Kickstarter page and watch the film's trailer! They need a little help so they will be able to finish strong. This film program helped launch us into the industry that we love and is close to mine and DeAnza's heart!

DeAnza's Jamaican Trip Blog:

Day 3
Today’s breakfast included baked oatmeal and a special treat in which Ryan discovered his eyes were more adventurous than his stomach. The rest of the group had the discernment to see that our American stomachs were not ready for unpasteurized goats milk.
At VBS it felt like our time was a well oiled machine. Heather really pushed team points and got the team involved and Dawn told a riveting version of the death and resurrection of Christ that involved a babbling Mary Magdalene (thought to be insane) and a mute Peter and John that were great at nodding. Angel tried really hard to keep her Cool Kinder team interested in the lesson but she was caught off guard by a gorgeous little Jamaican girl who she claimed was “mean muggin errbody.” Rusty came up and displayed an object lesson of a man who was bound and tied up and tried to encourage the kids to give him hope.
The afternoon gave us the opportunity to visit the local children’s development center (temporary orphanage for children who are wards of the state) and we were able to play with the kids outside. Angel Nicole Cruz and Krystal Blue walked into the room with the infants and carried two babies outside to play with the older toddlers. The minute our team got out side we were greeted with raised hands from little ones who were just begging to be picked up, carried, and held. The team meeting we had at the end of the night showed how overwhelming the experience was. There was an overpowering sense of guilt and frustration related in our group in reference to when our group had to put the kids down and leave them where we found them.
This day has been a sober reminder that as much as we wanted to be superman and fix the lives of the broken, it wasn’t our job it was God’s. We were just called to go and be where and what He wanted us to be.

DeAnza's Jamaican Trip Blog:

Day 2:
Breakfast was bright and early at 6:30am and it included Beans, hotdogs, fruit, and toast. Which was a perfect meal to get us going for the rest of the day.
After breakfast we gathered the school supplies and VBS equipment and headed to MBCA. When we arrived we saw students already gathering in the commons area excited about our arrival.
VBS was amazing!!! Heather Klinkerman was an awesome MC that pulled all of our elements together and got the kids on their feet waiting to hear what was next.
We had the kids to separate in teams for the week to earn points for listening, participating, and most importantly HAVING FUN! Then JC (Juan Carlos Cruz) Billy Bob (Rusty Rosser) Barbie (Lindsay Clock) and Big Mac (MacKenzie Miller) came up to introduce 15 seconds of chaos. Heather was the MC for the day and she guided the kids through to the lesson. Dawn came up to teach the lesson for the day about Jesus and she used student volunteers using name tags with different bible characters to keep the attention of the rest of the students.
At the aids hospus we not only got to pray with them but we got to hear some of their stories and even sing a few hymns standing by their side. We were able to see a true pureness of a relationship to God. Our plan was to bless the people of the hospus but in return we were blessed. This actually became a challenge for us to take this same perspective home and to bless the people that visit us as much as we have been blessed here.
We headed back to the MBCA to refresh the classrooms with a coat of paint. Although we did learn a valuable lesson, that oil-based paint in a small room with no windows does not lead to very intelligent conversation with Krystal Blue and Paige Danielle Ward.
At this point in the day we were able to pass out the school supply bags that were donated for the teachers. It was a humbling experience because it makes you think about all of the things that are sitting at home in your office as you watched these men and women thrilled with seeing there very own package of dry erase markers. The thought that they have “made it work” and taught kids without all of the luxuries that American teachers demand in their classrooms.
After an awesome dinner of Curry Mutton and rice and peas we all decided to have our VBS planning meeting in the pool hoping to finally cool down. We have a challenge to read Micah the rest of the week and we have thoroughly enjoyed Day 2 in Jamaica.

DeAnza's Jamaican Trip Blog:

Day 1
First victory of the trip: Not only did Deidra Reyes get to come, but miraculously she received a boarding pass and experience not once ounce of trouble making it off the standby list.
After a slightly grueling adventure through immigration (note to self Jamaican immigration officers don’t like it when your destination information is not correct and hugs and smiles do not make it better) and customs we made it through security with the whole group in one piece and all of our luggage.
As we were standing waiting for the rest of the group to clear customs, Paige Danielle Ward notices that there is a small little blonde man jumping up and down with a big smile on his face trying to get her attention. She then leans to DeAnza Ward Spangler to see if anyone recognizes the strange little man. Finally the two of them get brave enough to venture out and discover that it was Jerry, the principal and director of MBCA (Montego Bay Christian Academy) which is the private school that we are serving in Jamaica.
We then were able to get all the luggage into the bus and met our awesome driver for the week, Doc.
Once we arrived at the YWAM hostel we were greeting by an amazing couple Wade and Alexia and their two daughters Jaiden age 4 and Eliana age 2 (who we very quickly fell in love with.)
After getting a moment to settle in we got to dinner to eat a Jamaican version of spaghetti with spices that were out of this world.
The VBS planning meeting followed dinner where we had a debrief from Mike regarding the lesson for Monday and then we had time to brainstorm as a group to help come up with games and activities to keep the MBCA students excited and involved.
Prayer was next and this was an experience that on its own made the entire trip worth it. We thought we were having a normal somewhat silent time of prayer and meditation until the group of high school students who are on a three week summer camp came in. We then had the opportunity to pray for them and for God’s call on their lives as the next generation that will rock the world for Christ. The inspiring leader, The students then turned and began praying for us and the thought was wait a second . . . who’s praying for us? That’s right a group of about 15 teenagers began to pray over us and the entire team that was in prayer began to be broken and humbled as we heard the prayers that were being lifted up for us.
Ms. ? then began sharing her passion for the generations that come after us recognizing them as the generation after the Joshua generation. This referred to the generation that followed after Joshua in the Old Testament that chose not to follow God. And that it was our responsibility to sew into the lives of these young people and to display for them that there was someone in their life that believes the call of God for their future.
Our team walked out of that room in awe of God’s vastness and his ability to bring generations and cultures together.
This marks bed time and the end of Day 1 in Jamaica.
