Hi everyone, happy ! My name is Christian and this is my first season with the Raw Talk team. I joined the team as a Science Writer and I’ll be working to write articles to accompany or expand on a few episodes.

I’m in my 3rd year of my PhD with the Institute of Medical Science at U of T. My research areas are implementation science and cancer survivorship. I study how to move evidenced-based interventions and tools into routine clinical care.

I’m also a Registered Kinesiologist, working in the Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship Program at Princess Margaret, where I prescribe exercise to people with cancer to help them with their recovery.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball, and of course spending time with my golden retriever, Luna.

Hi Raw Talk listeners!

I’m Anisa and I joined RawTalk as a Promotions and Social Media team member this season. I am super passionate about science communication and health advocacy and this role gives me an opportunity to hone my skills. I’ll be taking over the account today and taking you all along my day in a life.

But before we do that, a little bit about me first! I am a transferring PhD student at the Institute of Medical Sciences. My research interests are in trauma and resuscitation science. I am based at St. Michael’s Hospital, where I am working on the trauma video review program, looking at adverse events and their impact on patient outcomes. I am interested in patient and surgical safety, quality improvement and learning about various research methodologies to answer questions.

Outside of school, I love yoga, reading, and travelling (currently planning my next adventure!).

I will be working on episode #112, which examines how architecture can affect our health and the impact of design on patient care. One of the best things about working on the podcast is that you can learn so much about other science topics and keep your grad school experience very broad! We have many excited episodes coming in the near future, so look out for those and keep listening!

Happy Friday!!

Hello everyone, happy ! My name is Sam and this is my first season as part of the RawTalk team. I've joined the podcast as a Science Writer and I'll be working to provide written articles accompanying each podcast episode. In these pieces I aim to provide a more in-depth look at some of the concepts discussed in the episode by our amazing guests and show hosts.

I am a first year MASc student in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at UofT. My research focuses on the production and manipulation of aligned collagen scaffolds for vascular tissue engineering and organ-on-a-chip applications. Outside of the lab, I enjoy volunteer tutoring, reading, and dancing tango. My current read is "History of Medicine: A Scandalously Short Introduction" by Jacalyn Duffin. This book is surprisingly humorous and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in an approachable intro to medical history. It's definitely provided some inspiration for future RawTalk articles!

This season I'll be working on articles attached to our future episodes on in-vitro disease models and animal therapy. I'm super excited to research these topics and share them with you; stay tuned for these episodes in the new year!

Happy FeatureFriday!

“Hello everyone, happy !! My name is Teo and I’m joining Raw Talk as a new Content Creator for Season 7! I have always been exceptionally passionate about science communication. As a new content creator, I want to create episodes that are relevant and engaging, while making scientific information accessible to a diverse audience.

I conduct research at , where I use fMRI to study individual variability in brain connectivity 🧠 and how that relates to dimensions of psychopathology in transdiagnostic psychiatric populations. Outside of school, I love running (currently training for my next race), travelling, concerts and live music, and am learning how to play the electric guitar! 🎸🎸🤘🏼⚡️

I’m currently working on episode #112, which examines how architecture can affect our health. It’s a super interesting topic, one that has changed the way I look at healthcare spaces, so stay tuned for its release on December 22nd. We have some really exciting episodes coming your way, so keep listening! Again - Happy Friday folks! 🤠”

Hey Listeners, happy ! My name is Madi and I’m a new Science Writer at Raw Talk 🙂 I’m super excited to be part of the team this season ☺️ As a science student with passions for advocacy and empowering people through information, I feel right at home at Raw Talk and I can’t wait to share the fantastic content (if I do say so myself) that we have in the works with you all!

So far, the highlights of my time with the podcast have been conducting an interview with a guest that inspired me, and brainstorming for my first article 🙂

I’m a first year MSc student at UofT and my research focuses on radiation toxicities in breast cancer patients. When I’m not hanging out with mice or burying my head in a fume hood, I love to paint while I listen to podcasts or music, or sip my way through my (embarrassingly extensive) tea collection over a good book. Once life gets a little quieter in the new year, I think I’m going to learn printmaking!

Check out our Stories throughout the day to see what I get up to today👩🏼‍🔬👩🏼‍🎨👩🏼‍💻 !

And be sure to keep your eye out for upcoming episodes and articles 😉

Hi everyone! I'm Alex, joining Raw Talk season 7 as a new science writer! I'm really passionate about science communication and connecting with people through various media platforms. It's my first time working for a podcast so I'm super stoked about my role.

Right now, I'm co-writing a companion article for our recent episode #109 on
Caregivers: The Forgotten Pillars of Healthcare. I'm really glad that the research, interviews, and writing that go behind our podcast episodes is improving my social awareness about some of our most pressing health topics in Canada (and hopefully yours too). It has been very enriching to my knowledge while I'm studying medicine at uOttawa and finding out how I want to broadly impact health in the future!

Outside of Raw Talk, I'm doing research on clinical diagnostics and quality of virtual care in nephrology. I also love exploring Ottawa with my new bike, playing basketball with my intramural buddies, writing on my movie blog, and eating eating eating!

I hope you are just as excited as I am about our new season. Stay tuned and enjoy!

“Hi Raw Talk listeners! My name is Daniel and I'll be taking over the Instagram account today! It's my second year on Raw Talk and looking at what we have in store for this season, I gotta say that we have some top-notch topics coming your way 👀.
The last episode I was on was Episode #103: Underrepresentation in STEM and it's been my favourite episode to work on yet. This year, I'm hoping to be involved in some episodes here and there, but now that I'm in my first year of medical school at Western University, it's been a struggle finding the time! Outside of school, I really enjoy cooking 🍳, reading 📖, playing video games 🎮, and spending time with my dog 🐩!
I'm really excited for this season, not just because of the topics, but we also have such a fantastic group of new members that will add so much to the team. Stay updated with the podcast to hear their great contributions and voices soon!”

“Happy Friday listeners!🥳 It’s Braeden.🙋🏻‍♂️ Super excited to be back again with Raw Talk for my second ✌🏻season as a Show Host!🎙 Last season I worked on Episode #102 (Healthcare Behind Bars) and my favourite Episode #98 (Podium Pills: Fame or Folly?).
I’m currently in my third year of graduate studies and have recently transferred into my Ph.D. at the Institute of Medical Science (). My research at focuses on examining caregiver burden amongst informal caregivers (i.e., family & friends) who provide care to patients undergoing same-day total hip or knee replacements. Specifically, my focus is on identifying which factors are contributing the greatest to the burden of care at various milestones along the surgical journey with a view towards intervention, mitigation, and possibly prevention.
Outside of research, I often spend my time watching sports.🏒⚾️ I had the chance this summer to watch the Jays play in New York🗽 and in Pittsburgh this past weekend🔵🐦
I’m stoked for the upcoming season - the team has some really cool episodes and content heading your way. Be sure to follow us on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever else you listen 🎧 to podcasts and let us know what you think! My favorite episode thus far is on episode #102 (Healthcare Behind Bars) last season, and I am excited for the exciting season ahead! 🎧📖 Be sure to keep an ear out 👂for new episodes on our website and podcast platforms!”
