Opinion Piece: Distorted Lines

I am troubled by the resurgence of minstrel imagery in our mainstream culture, a troubling echo of the past that now dances in the spotlight once more. One cannot help but ponder whether this resurgence is intentional or a natural outgrowth of our collective consciousness. At times, I recoil at the profound ignorance on display, as the very people who suffer most under these stereotypes seem to embrace them with open arms. It is as if satirical prophecy in "Bamboozled" has materialized before our eyes, a grim reality blurring the lines between fiction and truth. The glorification of violence and the erosion of dignity have become not only accepted but celebrated, a disheartening revelation of what some are calling cultural values.

Short reviews by Co-founder

In "Truth Be Told," offers a testament to the transformative power of time. Through lyrical finesse and raw authenticity, he weaves a narrative that mirrors life's evolution. Each track is a brushstroke, intricately adding depth and clarity to the larger canvas of his message. Like a seasoned storyteller, AZ crafts an opus that resonates with the profound understanding that only with time can skill mature and truth emerge. "Truth Be Told" stands as a compelling testament to the enduring resonance of artistry refined by the passage of time.

How it All Got Started

We do this for the Culture There was a time when the mass media wasn’t giving the public not nearly enough musical options. Not enough diversity when it came to Hip Hop especially and something had to be done. Back in 2009, we had our start on the island of Oahu and then began to spread from coast to coast and from country to country. Our goal was to capture the stories of Hip Hop from around the world. We would feature independent or iconic artists and use them as a portal to tell us their personal Hip Hop story. This model has become very common from one site to the next but we certainly were some of the first to feature several artists that many of you now know on a mainstream level. Going into our 9th year, 2018 will mark our biggest journey yet but remember one thing. We do this for the Culture! Peace! Co-Founder, J.Fletch
