Thin Air Community Radio plays an important role in spreading goodwill, sharing information, and improving our local community. A recent example is our Covid-19 program, the only weekly broadcast in our area dedicated to providing news and developments surrounding this pandemic.

“The important role of KYRS has been further solidified during the COVID epidemic. Listening to community radio is a personal experience, and even more personal when we are starved for human interaction. KYRS makes me feel connected to my community.” – Ben Miller, Cheney, WA.

ART HOUR Thursday 3-4PM on KYRS: Thin Air Community Radio 88.1 and 92.3FM. This week, Michael Moon Bear will talk about rhythm and The Community School Drummers. He'll play some of their music, too!

The Community School Drummers consists of 9th – 12th grade students and their drumming instructors, Michael Moon Bear and David Egly, from The Community School (Spokane Public School District). The student performers have various levels of drumming experience and bring a passion for learning and performing. Rhythms played are traditional West African and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Students in this class collaborate to learn how to play traditional rhythms, understand the history and cultural significance of each rhythm as well as the instruments, and then use that knowledge to perform and spread cultural appreciation. During performances, we present that information to the audience.
