More remastered and rereleased Aussie music on its way, through Soundmass!

The Rageflower release even includes the S/T EP and the final song released by the band (previously released only as a download through their website back in 1998!) "Tongues" as it was originally known (and played on Aussie Hour) as, and now renamed "Celtic".

Well, it isn't Aussie music related; but those who listened to the show would know that for the 10 years Aussie Hour ran for, each show was headed off with Illuminandi's "Hymn of All Creation".

I have just seen the announcement that Illuminandi is officially no more! - Welcome to the new project, Ensemble Desiderium!

Neo-folk/Neo-mediaeval DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM-y GOODNESS!!!

I just hope it has some great Doomy-Gurdy drones playing!

EN (wersja PL poniżej):
Welcome to the Facebook profile of the project "Ensemble Desiderium".

"Desiderium" is a Latin word (also used in English) meaning "longing", "desire" or "feeling of grief, usually for something lost". One could say that in our case it is the desire to create art together, although there is more to it than just that: this name also expresses a longing for beauty, for all things good, for something elusive and timeless.

"Ensemble" is a French word meaning simply a group of artists performing together. This term is frequently employed in the world of early music in relation to groups performing medieval or renaissance pieces. Since our project draws quite heavily on medieval and renaissance legacy, we wanted our inspirations to be reflected in the name under which we operate. For the sake of clarity, however, it should be noted that we do not perform early music or even traditional tunes - our music consists of original compositions only inspired by those genres, often infused with a healthy dose of rock and (mostly doom) metal. This is our take on "folk metal" or "folk rock": one in which the "folk" elements are just as important as the rock parts. That is why we use a wide range of instruments comprising historic, folk and modern instruments, while deliberately avoiding any sonic compromise, i.e. samples, sequencers, synthesizers or keyboards "pretending" to be folk instruments.

Ensemble Desiderium is not only a music project - it is a multifaceted collaboration between artists from different countries and backgrounds including music, storytelling and painting. We are inspired by myths, fairy tales and legends, traditional music (especially Celtic, Slavic and Scandinavian), as well as all things medieval. Just like our music, the story we would like to invite you to draws from various fairy tales and legends of Northern/Central/Eastern Europe; however, it is not merely an adaptation of an existing source, but rather our own original tale.

We'd like to encourage you to like our profile on Facebook and on Bandcamp (www.ensembledesiderium.bandcamp.com).
We will regularly reveal secrets about our project and inform you about our progress.

Podobnie jak nasza muzyka, opowieść do której chcemy Was zaprosić czerpie z rozmaitych podań i legend Europy północnej i wschodniej.

NEEDS MORE HURDY-GURDY!!!
(... as often shouted in Aussie Hour chat in response to folk metal being played) ;)

Well, I just found this year old YouTube video all about the hurdy-gurdy, from it's probable Persian origins, to its rise as an instrument of note/significance amongst royalty and the church in Europe, to its downfall and association with beggars and the lowest of the low, and fights against medieval musicians unions, to its Renaissance resurgence of popularity among the Aristocracy, and beyond... All you ever wanted to know about this great instrument!

In various places of modern culture, the enigmatic, crank-powered hurdy gurdy can be found, creating strange, droning music. But where did it come from? Twit...

Since winding up Aussie Hour as online radio show a bit over a year and a half ago, I have thus far limited posting on this page to the occasional bit of Aussie music related news.

This morning saw the announcement from Roxx Productions of some non-Aussie music related news that was simply too good to pass up on sharing through an appropriate meme...

Grave Forsaken

After some delays we are planning to continue work on the next album this weekend. Everything is recorded and we now plan to continue with the mix. I can't give any timeframe on completion because this project has already taken much longer than usual, however we are slowly but surely getting there!

The Aussie Hour

10/02/2019

After being quiet the last couple of months (Have had quite a bit going on, and didn't know when I'd get around to doing the show again), Aussie Hour will return on Reanimated Radio next Sunday (17th February) at the usual time of 9pm - 1am Eastern Australian time, for a run of a couple of months leading up to the 10th Anniversary of the show in April. Hope you can join us again then!

Grave Forsaken

Grave Forsaken

Hi all, Vaughan here with an important announcement. Founding member and lead guitarist Elias Salmela has made the decision to leave Grave Forsaken after 14 years. We are very sad to see Elias go but we respect his reasons for leaving the band. This decision has been a while in the making and I’ve had many conversations with Elias about it.

Elias has been a vital member of Grave Forsaken throughout the history of the band and we want to acknowledge his huge contribution. We wouldn’t be the band we are without him. When Grave Forsaken formed Elias was the driving force behind much of what we did. From a personal point of view, Elias has been my best friend and musical partner for many years. He has helped shape me as songwriter and a musician and I appreciate that greatly.

We wish Elias all the best for the future and we will remain in close contact. Thanks Elias for all the years of service to the metal mission and God bless the next chapter of your life.

Fall Of Rome - Soundmass

This Sunday on Aussie Hour, I'll be playing music from Aussie band Covenant for the first time!

They recorded a demo cassette in the early 1990s, which has just recently been released on CD for the first time, through Soundmass.com

https://www.soundmass.com/product/fall-of-rome-2/

Covenant were a South Australian traditional heavy/power metal band from the early 90’s. Within the local scene, the band received a good response to their tight and professional live performances and original sound. In 1993, they released their one and only demo cassette which, before now, has ne...
