The Ridges at Village Creek Golf Club Inc. is situated ~40 miles west of Memphis inside Village Creek State Park in Arkansas. It’s a municipal facility with 27 holes that sits atop Crowley’s Ridge alongside Lake Austell and Lake Dunn (both of which offer superb hiking and fishing). Designed by Andy Dye (Pete’s nephew) and comprised of 3 different 9-hole courses (the North, East & West), the facility opened in 2012 and slowly gained recognition. In 2018, it was rated the #1 golf course you can play in Arkansas by Golfweek Magazine.

The Stat: While Tour Pros and Scratch golfers are a good bit more likely to make a 20 footer, they really separate themselves from amateurs with their consistency inside 10 feet.

The Takeaway: We all tend to believe the best golfers hole long putts more consistently. And while that’s true, it’s not where they truly gain the majority of their strokes over lesser skilled golfers. They separate themselves by their ability to make less mistakes when putting from closer distances, and they achieve this through dedicated practice.

Happy Friday all!

Padraig Harrington is NOT happy. The 3-time major winner is vehemently against the new rule changes being proposed by the PGA TOUR ’s Player Advisory Council. In summary, he hates the idea of shrinking field sizes to avoid play suspensions due to darkness and getting rid of many Monday qualifiers. “Just terrible. It really is… At the end of the day the people who are on the inside are voting to keep the thing tighter and more closed.” Simply put, he wants to give fringe up-and-coming players and underdogs more opportunity to prove themselves alongside the big boys. But what do you think? Does Padraig have a point?

The policy board will vote on the changes on Nov. 18th

New Jersey is a sneaky good state for great golf!

The commute to reach a great course might be painful (i.e. NJ ranks dead last in terms of both traffic congestion and total expenses per mile), but with tracks like the Ballyowen at Crystal Springs Resort, The Architects Golf Club in Phillipsburg and near the Jersey Shore, the pain endured will be worth it.

And the Bay Course at Sea View Golf Club is absolutely worth the drive; it’s one of the best deals you’ll find anywhere in America. Come back tomorrow to see the beautiful

The Stat: The PING Golf G430 Max 10K driver was the most accurate and forgiving of all 37 driver models tested, while the Callaway Golf Ai Smoke Max D model was the longest off the tee (source: MyGolf Spy ).

The Takeaway: Let’s get real for a second here- If you’re playing pretty much any 2024 model from a big name brand, you’re in great shape from a technology standpoint. The difference between any 2 drivers in even the top 15 this year and the top few drivers 5 years ago would show a much bigger gap, but we’re on the cutting edge of technology these days.

Happy Tuesday all!

We’re squarely in the golf dead season, so fans are thirsty for any golf news they can get. On Saturday, we were all excited to hear reports that the PGA TOUR and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) had finally settled on a preliminary ~$1 billion agreement that would unite LIV Golf with the PGA Tour and reward existing PGA Tour players handsomely for their loyalty. The reports were that the PIF would take an 11% ownership stake in the Tour and get 2 seats on the board of directors, and all that was needed was a final vote by PGA Tour players.

Welp, it’s been 4 days since that report came out, and not a peep has been heard since. We’d love to be wrong here, but we’re not so sure those rumors were true. Can you blame whoever started them though? It’s a pretty slow news cycle in the golf media world this time of year.

We’ll “fall back” with daylight savings tonight (boo!), and we thought The Loop Forest Dunes Golf Club was the perfect course to highlight as we set the clocks back an hour. Legendary designer and Michigan-native Tom Doak mulled the concept of a truly reversible course for 30 years before it finally became a reality with The Loop. Yes, you read that correctly. The course can be played both forwards and backwards. On even days, you play The Loop “Red” and on odd days, it plays in reverse as The Loop “Black.” And the crazy part is that both courses are individually ranked on Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play list (currently #69 and #58, respectively).

Check back tomorrow to see this legendary course, after you get an extra hour of sleep!

Happy Friday all!

The PGA TOUR Players Advisory Council proposed a set of big changes this week to decrease many tournament field sizes, lower the number exempt players, reduce the number of Tour cards issued to Korn Ferry Tour grads, and more. The underlying theme is that tournaments have gotten a bit out of hand- the pace of play and number of rounds completed on schedule has really declined, which is an enormous pain in the you know what for players.

In the report, the PAC noted that 28% of tournaments had at least one round suspended due to darkness, meaning the players had to come back bright and early the next day ahead of the subsequent round. It might seem like a glamorous job, but imagine if you couldn’t finish your accounting or legal review 28% of the time because the power and internet went out regularly at your office, and your boss required you to come in early the next day as a result.
