Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was allegedly kidnapped, handcuffed from hands and legs, covered with a black bag on his head and thrown into a pick-up truck. Later he was put in an airplane, tied to one of the seats and taken into the U.S., according to his attorney’s version of events as said to me. On a photo shared by a source inside the US government his right hand is visibly hurt.

Official mugshot for Nestor Isidro PĂ©rez Salas (31) “El Nini”. A federal judge just granted an “amparo” (legal protection) to El Nini against his extradition to the US. Usually an amparo is granted after a first trial. But strangely enough, judge MarĂa del Carmen SĂĄnchez Cisneros offered legal protection even without a formal request. This could be one of the biggest proofs of a direct line between Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and high ranking Mexican officials.

Narco "El Plaga" Gives Me An Interview. Mexico Says He's In Prison But He Says He's Free.
After a shoot out in the border city of Mexicali, police arrested the boss of hit men known as “El Plaga,” or the “The Plague,” and he is now locked up in a Mexican federal prison, officials say. Yet the man I talk to on a video call claims to be El Plaga and says he is free and back operating in Mexicali, over the border from Calexico, California.
“They let me out,” he tells me as as he drives in a pick up truck at night. “Here I am, right where I have been, doing the same thing.”
He is slim and boyish, just 24 years old, but behind his youthful appearance is a hardened narco who has already been a decade in the Sinaloa Cartel and is a senior figure in a faction that controls a section of the U.S. border. He got his nickname, he says, as “he leaves no one alive, like a plague.”
The man on the video call looks like a photo of Plaga that appeared following his arrest in the state of Baja California in 2022. He shows me an ID with Cristian Alexis Mendoza Guillén, one of the names he was identified with by the police. And he knows complex details of the cartel.
Yet in the crazy narco war, it’s hard to know who or what to believe, so I will leave a caveat here and go deeper into the tangled details of the case below. Plaga (or the man claiming to be him) got in touch with me after I published an interview with another narco, Dámaso “El Mini Lic” López, which went viral. El Plaga works for a trafficker known as El Ruso (The Russian) who he refers to as Jefe R. Like Dámaso, El Ruso and Plaga are in a war with the Chapitos, the cartel faction lead by the sons of El Chapo. The latest fight has left a smattering of corpses in Baja California, Sonora, and Sinaloa.

MEXICAN CARTELS ARE USING GOVERNMENT INTELLIGENCE TO TRACK ON PEOPLE

Luis Chaparro

MEXICO CITY, Mexico .— Mexican criminal organizations are allegedly using intelligence and security software owned by government officials to locate and disappear rivals and hide their crimes, according to several sources within Mexican law enforcement and cartel members who spoke with me.

The software, called Titan, was officially acquired by several Mexican state governments including Jalisco, Chihuahua, Mexico and Nuevo León. Its intelligence investigators geolocate persons across the country in real time, access minute-to-minute location logs, and obtain official identification documents, amongst other private information, according to sources.

The different services cost between 10,000 Mexican pesos (roughly $600) to 180,000 pesos ($9,000). They are being advertised on WhatsApp groups managed by a “council” which includes both members of criminal organizations and Mexican state officials. The council approves services, members and in case of trouble—like someone stealing money—could also order killings, according to sources.

Titan can be accessed in one of two ways— either directly through a Mexican official, who takes the order of services requested and delivers on an agreed time, or by obtaining a log in.

Titan uses a large Mexican database to obtain personal information on individuals and uses GPS technology to track a specific cell phone using either the phone number or the phone’s ID, according to the same source.

I obtained access to a log in account to try the service and witnessed how easy it was to obtain personal information from a single name.

AN OLD REVENGE AGAINST ‘EL MAGO’

Luis Chaparro

LOS ANGELES, California.— “It was people from the Florencia 13, operators from la cafetera (Arellano Felix Organization). It was an old revenge against ‘El Mago’.

Eddie Escudero, known as ‘El Mago’ or ‘El Editor’, from Durango, Mexico but living in Los Angeles for most of his life, was gunned down during an afterparty during the morning of Nov. 23, according to authorities.

Sources within the criminal organizations operating in LA told me his death was related on an old revenge operated by the Florencia 13 gang.

The Florencia 13, also known as South Side Florencia 13, Florence Gang, F13 is an American criminal street gang based in LA composed mainly of Mexican-Americans. The gang has strong ties to the remaining players still using the Arellano Felix’ cartel’s name.

“He ordered Macías killed, and they went back after him,” the source said.

José Luis Macías, 25, was killed in December 2008 in Los Angeles while driving his Bentley on the I-10, according to an affidavit from the time.

“Eddie wanted to be the shot caller,” an officer quoted on Macías’ affidavit case from 2008 said.

‘El Mago’ was known for his successful restaurant businesses in LA and for his flashy social life. Sources also point at ‘El Mago’ for having a direct line with Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, the eldest son of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and leader of Los Chapitos.

“There was a gathering from the night before that went on up until the next morning. At 8am at least five people began a shootout against Eddie (‘El Mago’) and other three of his friends. He died at the scene,” a source said.

BEHIND THE ARREST OF ‘EL NINI’

Luis Chaparro

CULIACÁN, Sinaloa .— “From a while back we had information that Iván Archivaldo (Guzmán) and Alfredito (two of the three sons of El Chapo still at large in Mexico) wanted to remove their support for ‘El Nini’ because of all the heat he was bringing to the organization,” the source said.

According to his intelligence, ‘Los Chapitos’ were not looking to hand over ‘El Nini’ but would rather leave him alone to be either captured or killed.

But a member of Guzmán's family who reached out to me months ago had a different version: “He wanted to be left alone,” the man said.

This is the first time a source vetted as an active member of ‘Los Chapitos’ family speaks out.

“We had a small reunion about three weeks ago and that night we all got fu**ed up drunk. There was a heated discussion between El Piyi and Nestor (El Nini) and they couldn’t reach an agreement. On that party was Ivan (Guzmán) and he told both that they needed to fix their problems or they would end up like the Arellano’s (Felix organization), but Nestor just for his nuts went back to one of the ranches he used back then, that’s when the government almost capture him and seized his pets, the tigers and his cars” the source said.

“Nestor blamed El Piyi for that and he was so angry at Ivan because he didn’t let him do his will that he decided to go back to Culiacán to one of his houses where they arrested him. We warned him that things were hot in Culiacán and that they (government) were after him, but he said he didn’t need protection and that he was safe there.”

The source also shared a private comms chat where Los Chapitos henchmen warned about the “presence of ‘Fuerzas Elite’ (Elite forces, in reference to the Mexican military special operations) and that they knew they were there to grab ‘El Nini’. The message was sent on Tuesday 21 at 12:00 pm.

“It all happened really fast, we couldn’t even send help. We had enough back up but we didn’t start shooting to avoid harming the community again as we did before, that was by orders of Ivan and Alfredito,” the source said.
