Metro North Hospital and Health Service

A measles alert has been issued for people visiting the Brisbane CBD between 29 -31 March, especially those attending the following venues:

- Sake restaurant in Eagle Street on the evenings of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March, and lunchtime on Monday 31 March 2014
- the Stock Exchange Hotel on Saturday 29 March from 11.30pm through to close of business in the early hours of Sunday morning
- Pancake Manor on Sunday morning after 2:00 am.

The infectious person also travelled on bus routes 306 or 322 on those dates.

This case has links to an identified case of measles which was contracted overseas.

A third related case has also been confirmed and has travelled through Beaudesert and into NSW. Follow-up is continuing.

Public Health has put infection control measures in place and will continue with contact tracing to limit further spread of the disease.

People with symptoms of measles are urged to contact their GP to make an appointment.

Free measles vaccination for both children and adults born after 1965 is available from GPs and Brisbane City Council.

Two doses of a measles containing vaccine will provide long term protection from the infection.

True measles is a highly infectious and serious viral infection that causes fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes, then a red spotty rash a few days later. It is often a severe disease and occasionally measles has dangerous complications.

It is spread by tiny droplets in the air or by contact with infected secretions from the nose or mouth.

A fact sheet for the public about measles is available from Queensland Health

Hi everybody isn't it great to see the back of a horrific month, (February), most of us in the path of storm Darwin will be remembering it from many years to come, some are still effected, with flooding and fallen trees leaving destruction to many homes, with many more months before people are back in their homes and normal everyday life can continue, lets hope the next couple of months ahead are incident free and we can all gladly look forward to a long hot summer (hopefully)!!!!!..........J.L...........

Hi everybody'
I do hope I find you all safe and well from the aftermath of Storm Darwin, The big clean up has started since this morning, with many people homeless and powerless after an unforgettable day, many roads are still dangerous with house a farm debris, trees are still on many roads, electricity cable's are low so be careful when travelling, any structure that you feel might be unstable please keep away, and report it to local authorities, keep warm and make sure if you can, call and see anyone that might be on their own, with more bad weather forecast for Friday(Hopefully not as bad) we should be prepared for no power/ heating etc. for this weekend.

Talk to you all soon,

Woman Rescued From House After 20 Years Of Being Taken For Granted.

Gardai and charity workers have liberated a 44 year old woman from a house in Navan after being alerted to claims that she had been living there for over 20 years during which time she repeatedly had to cook, clean and iron with barely a word of thanks.
A 45 year old man, described by Gardai as ‘a miserable cunt’ was arrested at the scene.
As Gardai continue their investigation, anti-grumpiness charities are calling for the public to be on the lookout for partners who fail to pull their weight around the house admitting that the symptoms can be difficult to spot, but they typically include sighing, eye-rolling, disappearing to the pub whenever the words ‘We need to talk’ are mentioned and watching repeats of Top Gear on Dave.
