OG Space Invader Pectinia, can never get enough of it! (Unless you are it’s coral neighbor)
Trying to decide… with the Recirculating CO2 Scrubber attached, pH gets up to 8.55 range during the high (taking the average between the two probes), with the scrubber detached we’re sitting at 8.3-ish at the high. Which number would you go for?
This the OG CSB’s Marbled foot?
Putting Nem Guard to the test with CSB Anemone… 🤞😬 Does this give this anxiety?
Absolutely thrilled with my PO4 & NO3 numbers for once!
SPS cluster
Dear CSB, please stop roaming around and just go home. Kthxbye
The Jawbreaker mushroom is my favorite mushroom anemone of all time… probably until I get the bounce morph of it! 😆 (maybe try and blast one with UV or super high Alk for a couple weeks?)
For Black Friday, I also picked up a Hydros triple optical water level sensor. I currently have the standard single optical eye one; with this model because it has a separate normal water level and low level, I’m hoping to have a little buffer space for Kalk dosing before the ATO kicks in to top off the rest of the tank evaporation, if that makes sense. Later on I may put the regular sensor back in and serve as a water high level, to shut off the Kalk dosing if the high water level is met. (Or could I also do this with just the triple water sensor?) This is starting to get a little too techy for me, but at the moment it is still enjoyable. 😂
Whoa? Where did the nutrients gone? Haven’t see under .12 PO4 in ages!
First round of Black Friday purchases coming in from 😆 Needed a new heater for the winter and wanted to give the new Scuba a try - especially interested in its Eco mode that nobody really talked about.

This makes me happy! This puddle of GARF Bonsai sprouted seemingly out of nowhere. It grew from where my old Bonsai was and since removed after the SPS crash last Feb - I guess a few polyps survived! Same thing happened with the Forest Fire Monti Digi, a few branches are sprouting! 😊
The RR Firecracker from is probably my favorite SPS in my tank at the moment, pretty crazy coloration!
This popped up on FB Memories from 2009; when the Aiptasia Eating Filefish was still the boring ‘ol Bristletail Filefish. 😝 it took care of all the Aiptasia and Majano in my old reef tank. Who was the first to call them the Aiptasia Eating Fishfish? ORA?
Pleasantly surprised to see Hong Kong’s Ocean Park mentioned in this issue of the CORAL magazine! 🇭🇰 My old “Disney World” when I was growing up in HK! The article is on the success in breeding different fish including the Stripey — very cool to say the least seeing their adventure, and also how the people and companies we know and love (*ahem comes to mind) could impact a public aquarium on the other side of the world. Great issue & !
Of course the moment I added Gold Torch to the Mangrove Tank, the CSB Anemone would move from behind the rock to front and center again. 🫠
Leon doesn’t actually get to see the tanks often, as the lights are usually off when he’s home except for on weekends (and we don’t typically hang out in the basement). So today we spent a little time checking the critters out. 😊 Btw, some Aiptasias disappeared cleanly… maybe the Aiptasia Eating Filefish finally turned onto them? 🎉
TSA Raspberry Splice has grown! Just wish the pink side colors up (and grows up) as much as the green!
Mesh bags at Trader Joe, $1.99 for two. Great for holding larger bio media? Now if I could find smaller ones to hold carbon…
That drip. 🫠
Feeling Aquashella FOMO, so I’m just gonna stare at the Magic Carpet & Rainbow Plating Cyphastrea. 🥲 You all having a good time over there?
My Aiptasia Garden. 😆 Patiently waiting for my Aiptasia Eating Filefish to develop the taste for Aiptasia… though sadly, it usually starts picking at corals afterwards in my past experiences. 🥲
This picture is not about the Jawbreaker, nor the Magic Carpet, but that random wild mushroom from almost a year ago! Recently it started developing a sheen and a random splash of green in a corner. Very interested to see how it morphs overtime!
Albo looking all wonky and probably reverted; haven’t had a good look in months. 😅
Finally picked up a Magic Carpet Mushroom this past weekend at my local reef club WAMAS meeting in a trade. Thanks Kim! 🙏 Slowly rebuilding my rhodactis collection, lost most during the SPS crash early this year from what I think was bacteria infection. Wish I was more keen on anti-biotic dip back then.
Outbound to WAMAS meeting!

During last week’s Canada trip, my family had the pleasure of visiting in Ontario 🍁 It was a very well stocked, organized, and clean store with a super friendly Red as the amazing caretaker. I’m excited to share that video in the near future. The leather coral with green polyps was the coral that threaded us together: .reef.nerd originally gave me that coral, seeing that, shared photo of his massive colony (looks amazing, btw!), and then recommended that I check out his buddy Red’s place while in Canada, which led to this visit and some amazing donuts. Funny how things all come together!
My strategy for the frags grow out contest is simply “DON’T TOUCH THEM!” After I set the frags on the rack, I moved them once at two weeks after light acclimation and that was it. Have not touched them since. The micro bristle stars, bubble algae, Aiptasias can be witnesses. 😆 Can’t wait til the 6 months is up so I could finally mount the frags onto the rock scape and not stare at a rack all day… 🫠 Think I could scrape up the encrusting pieces of SPS so they don’t goto waste?
Pardon the zoom. Just excited that the RR Firecracker from is finally taking off! 🧨 Pictured here with the friendly neighborhood Aiptasias and Money Cowrie.
A fish decided to start nipping the clam mantle this morning and has not stopped since. So out come the old fashioned fish trap. Want to venture a guess on which fish it was? 🫠
Last batch of Weeping Willow frags of the year almost ready to go home to some reefing buddies! 🦙 (all spoken for 🙏)

Looks like Mr. Jobe Smith found the buffet line as it opens.
Fortune smiles! While doing a late night load of laundry, I caught the Colorado Sunburst Anemone from that has been touring the tank starting to walk again with a bit of it’s foot lifted. I was able to easily peel off the anemone using my trusty plastic spoon. For now, the Nem is back in the Mangrove Tank until I can figure out what to do with it. The 135g does not have room for a semi-permanent specimen container (I tried), and I’m not confident that this guy would sit in a glass cup on the back wall quietly. 🤷🏻♂️
This popped up on FB Memories from 5 years ago at Vegas. 🥲 It was definitely my favorite period of time for reefing! Hope to capture a bit of that magic back! (And shout out to all the ladies and gents in the photo… hope you all are well!)
Pooling 🫠 think I’ll just leave the frags there for the duration of the contest.
Snip Snip little buddy. ✂️Incoming Neon Toadstool frags, and a few Weeping Willow frags (already spoken for)
Latest ICP-MS for the 135g came back from / 👨🏻🔬
Thankfully the Derasa Clam has stopped shooting his shots and things seems back to normal. I did perform a large water change + sump clean up anyway.
Colorado Sunburst Anemone from got huge and this morning it started walking to the back towards the Anacropora Garden. 😵💫 Fingers crossed that it’s trying to split, or I need to pretty soon figure somewhere for it to go… squeeze an island into the 135g? Let it duke it out with the Finger Leather in the Mangrove Tank? New Clownfish & Nem tank plumbed to the 135g? 🤷🏻♂️

As always, got to check the salinity. 😂 This time at Flag Ponds Nature Park thanks to recommendation from @telegraham!! 😆 Awesome beach to hang out with kids and dogs, even though apparently Kowloon hates water… #hannachecker #flagpondsnaturepark
