Dear Sleep Tales community,

Last week we faced the saddest moment in Sleep Tales and in the Lofi community: the passing of our dear Yuri Tavares Bastos, known as Linearwave.

Yuri was not only one of the most brilliant and kind person I had the pleasure of knowing; he was like a brother to me. We were great partners since we met and built many things together. Yuri played a vital role in Sleep Tales, a contribution that may go unnoticed by most.

He was much more than our A&R. He was with me from the early days of the label helping with everything, from naming to deciding the directions we should take to ensure the best for the artists and listeners. Yuri always said he never wanted to be part of a lofi label, but he recognized the potential of what I was creating to make a positive impact on the world by helping those dealing with insomnia and anxiety. Without hesitation, he not only handled a significant part of the A&R responsibilities but also accompanied me in every possible meeting, from marketing to legal matters, driven by his desire to contribute as much as possible.

For example, even though I was a fan of his work and constantly asked Linearwave to release music through Sleep Tales, he rarely did. He said he didn’t want to release projects with the label because he wanted to make it clear that his contribution was never to personally benefit from the label but to help as many artists as possible. I insisted, saying I loved his music and that I would take responsibility for the decision, but it was no use.

Those who joined us more recently did not have the chance to interact with him as he had been away since December 2022 to take care of his health, but you should know that Yuri is and will forever be a fundamental part of Sleep Tales — and, in particular, of my life.

Thank you, Yuri, for everything. You will be forever present through your beautiful music and contributions to the world.

I kindly ask that everyone send positive thoughts and strength to his family during this difficult time.

Do you know what a "night owl" is? 💫

According to the dictionary definition, a night owl is someone who walks at night or who has a nightly routine, habits, or customs. But, night owls can also be those who "don't use the nights to sleep."

In her new work, Brazilian pianist enters the world of nocturnal beings, revealing their stories and the paths of gods from Greek mythology, celestial objects and nocturnal animals. 🌟

Some of our highlights are "Quiet Nights", the first compilation of silence from Sleep Tales, and to the playlist "baby sleep 💤", which brings together an unprecedented curation of songs for babies to sleep.

And how can we not remember our super special partnership with ? 💾 In addition to producing a very cool video telling the story of lofi and Sleep Tales, she prepared a special playlist for us. The result is awesome and worth checking out.

Whew! It was hectic, right? We were very happy with the achievements of this month and we are looking forward to what June will have to offer us!

With the emergence of new tools, several experiments with AI and some controversies, we want to know: what do you think about music made with artificial intelligence?

Opening this debate, we would like to point out that, contrary to what has often been said, lofi is not a musical genre produced from the use of AI. 🎹

Those who follow Sleep Tales and the worldwide lofi scene, know that there are artists from different places in the world producing incredible works full of sensibility. 🥰
