Planit and the Sunday Market in Ostend have been closed for the winter, and it looks like it's going to continue that way for the summer with no apparent plans to reopen.

Matiatia, where the ferries arrive on Waiheke, has a new restaurant in The Bay at 10 Ocean View Road. It's a steakhouse and pizzaria and offers an order and delivery service for people coming off the ferries.

Forgot to mention, Waiheke's Antonio Crisci's Non Solo Pizza was awarded the Best Italian Restaurant at the recent 2011 Metro Audi Restaurant of the Year Awards.

Feniche (Italian for Phoenix and pronounced fen-ich-chay) has risen from where Viola restaurant used to be at 122A Ocean View Road, Oneroa. The style will continue to be casual Italian.

Waiheke Island's Casita Miro cleaned up at 2011 Metro Audi Restaurant of the Year Awards being acknowledged as Best Rural Restaurant and runner-up Best Casual Bistro. Owner Cat Vosper got the Personality of the Year Award and Runner-up as Most Innovative Restauranteur of the Year. Formidable.
