Out of the ashes of the late 60's Civil Rights and Black Power movements, filmmakers took the opportunity to break the "Mammy" trope in films and present Black strength and character on screen - as displayed in films like Shaft and Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. In the great American tradition, Hollywood began exploiting timely stereotypes of Black culture, highlighting the image of pimps and drug dealers dipped in hyper-sexuality and jivey street language. This gave birth to the controversial "Blaxploitation" film genre.

From Willie Hutch, to Isaac Hayes, to Curtis Mayfield, to James Brown, the Blaxploitation soundtracks are fuel enough for a series, let alone a single episode. Tonight we dip our toe in the well of Blaxploitation vibes.
