Ho township has become a haven for prowling criminals, terrorizing both residents and visitors. These thieves, suspected to be part of an organized gang, strike during power outages, particularly targeting areas with sudden blackouts. Notably, one incident involved thieves stealing gas cylinders, coal pots, and even cooked food during a targeted outage. Gunfire is occasionally heard, heightening the community's fear and sense of insecurity.

African countries banning po*******hy is a strategic move aimed at preserving the mental health of the younger generation, young adults, and society at large. Po*******hy has been linked to various negative psychological effects, including addiction, desensitization to violence, and distorted perceptions of sexual relationships. By restricting access to explicit materials, African nations aim to protect their youth from these harmful influences.

Countries like India have implemented similar measures with notable success, demonstrating the potential benefits of such policies. India's stringent regulations have reportedly contributed to a decline in p**n consumption, promoting a healthier societal environment. Following this example, Burkina Faso has taken a commendable step by banning po*******hy in any form, setting a precedent for other African nations.

The core objective of these bans is to uplift the moral fabric of society, which has been increasingly threatened by the pervasive nature of explicit content. By eliminating easy access to po*******hy, these countries hope to foster a culture of respect, decency, and healthy interpersonal relationships. This shift is not just about restricting content but about redirecting the population's energy towards more productive and constructive activities.

Moreover, the initiative aims to address the broader societal impact. A society inundated with explicit material often struggles with issues like sexual violence, exploitation, and moral degradation. By imposing these bans, African countries are making a proactive effort to mitigate these problems, ensuring a safer and more ethical environment for all citizens.

The move to ban po*******hy in African countries represents a significant step towards enhancing mental health, safeguarding the younger generation, and reinforcing societal values. By following the examples set by India and Burkina Faso, African nations can create a more morally robust and mentally healthy society.

Sh*to, a popular black burnt pepper sauce, has become a staple accompaniment to Ghanaian dishes like waakye and kenkey. Traditionally prepared in homes, particularly for children heading to boarding school in the 1980s, sh*to was a beloved part of many family recipes. However, in recent years, waakye and kenkey vendors have adopted this sauce, often altering its ingredients in ways that pose health risks.

These street vendors have introduced harmful additives and unhealthy methods in preparing sh*to, causing adverse health effects among consumers. Reports have emerged of people experiencing heart palpitations, chest discomfort, boggy blood vessels, skin tracings, and even high blood pressure after consuming these modified versions of sh*to. The inclusion of excessive amounts of preservatives, artificial flavorings, and potentially unsafe cooking oils is suspected to contribute to these alarming symptoms.

There is an urgent need for stricter food safety regulations and greater awareness among both vendors and consumers to ensure that this beloved sauce does not become a vehicle for health hazards.

Ghana needs a labor importation policy to enable entrepreneurs, business owners, and investors to recruit and retain top-tier employees for specific roles. This policy could attract highly skilled professionals who can significantly contribute to the country's economic growth and competitiveness. Advocates argue that granting stakeholders the freedom to employ workers from a global talent pool, ranging from janitors to general managers, could address several challenges faced by businesses in Ghana.

One major issue is the perceived lackadaisical attitude and occasional thievery among the local workforce, which can lead to operational inefficiencies and financial losses. By importing skilled labor, businesses can ensure they have employees who are not only qualified but also exhibit a strong work ethic and integrity. This shift could foster a more disciplined and productive work environment, ultimately helping to stabilize and grow businesses.

Furthermore, a labor importation policy can promote knowledge transfer and innovation, as foreign professionals bring diverse experiences and expertise. This can enhance local employees' skills and work standards, contributing to overall national development. Thus, updating employment policies to allow more flexibility in hiring could be a crucial step towards addressing workforce challenges and driving sustainable business success in Ghana.

Ghana sachet water, the quality of sachet water, commonly known as "pure water," is declining as some producers compromise its hygienic standards, endangering consumer health. Recent market samples reveal that sachets sold at three for GH₵1 or for 30 pesewas fail to meet quality and taste standards. This has sparked public concern, prompting calls for authorities to reassess and regulate these products to safeguard public health. Ensuring stringent quality control and adherence to hygiene protocols is crucial to protect consumers and maintain trust in the safety of sachet water, a vital resource for many Ghanaians.

In Ghana, a concerning trend sees youth prioritizing sports betting over effective education. Many young people, enticed by the allure of quick success, lose interest in the value of educating themselves, often viewing school enrollment as a form of punishment. This mindset leads to a desire for immediate completion of education, undermining long-term academic and professional development. If this phenomenon isn't addressed promptly, Ghana risks a future with insufficient human resources to sustain the country’s progress. The government and communities must collaborate to emphasize the importance of education, providing support and alternatives to counteract the growing appeal of sports betting.

In the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious, capturing 57% of the total valid votes cast and securing his position as president-elect. This outcome aligns with earlier predictions made by Volta News, a media outlet known for its political foresight. Volta News had also accurately forecasted the unexpected election of Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin as Speaker of Ghana's Parliament, an event that had initially surprised the nation due to its unpredictability.

Mahama's decisive win in the 2024 elections marks a significant shift in Ghana's political landscape. His return to the presidency after a previous tenure indicates a strong desire among the electorate for change and possibly a different approach to governance. The NDC's strategic campaigning and voter engagement efforts were crucial in achieving this victory.

As president-elect, Mahama's administration is expected to bring forth new policies and initiatives aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing the country, signaling a potentially transformative period in Ghana's democratic journey.

Here is a summary of the main points from Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s speech at UPSA ¹:

- The respected educator and former Education Minister shared insights into what the next NDC government intends to do, including fighting corruption, ensuring economic growth and improving the quality of lives of Ghanaians.

- Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang will restore the dignity of the office of the president.

- The combination of John Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will bring relief to Ghanaians when elected in the 2024 polls.

- The next election is not about making history, or returning a former president back to power, or about producing the first woman vice president.

- It is about winning the elections for a purpose that goes beyond those enumerated above.

- The purpose is the opportunity to hold the country together, again; to heal Ghana; it is about the chance to pull Ghana from the precipice of destruction, of normalizing corruption, of incomprehensible greed, from deep despair.

- The election ahead is about hard work and abiding sacrifice.

- It is to embrace everyone in building a Ghana that functions, again.

- It is to work towards a Ghana where citizens have confidence and hope and are determined to regain their independence of thought and of agenda.

- We must work towards a Ghana that at the very least, can feed itself; where the law truly works; where there is shared prosperity; where democracy has not become a fluke; where people are not abused and where the basic necessities of life are not denied the majority or eventually, anyone.

EFFECTIVE CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTION FOR CITIZENS.

Instances of military misconduct, ranging from civilian brutality to shootings at polling stations during general elections, underscore a troubling reality. Some within the military view themselves as above the law, blurring the line between protector and oppressor. These deviations from their core mandate of territorial protection erode public trust and endanger constitution.

The question arises: does the military create the state, or does the state create the military? If citizens were to decide through a referendum to dismantle the military as an organ of governance, would any force remain? This raises profound questions about the role of the military in society and its accountability to civilian authority.

Despite these concerns, there are commendable individuals within the military who uphold the highest principles of service to the administration. However, the loss of civilian lives in avoidable encounters is reprehensible and demands accountability and reform within military institutions. Only by addressing these issues can the military truly serve as a force for good within society.

FROM GREAT ALLIANCE THROUGH PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE TO ALLIANCE FOR REVOLUTIONARY CHANGE.
The metaphor of the chestnut tiger butterfly aggressively flapping its wings to grasp political power in Ghana paints a vivid picture of the impending December 7, 2024, general elections as a catalyst for revolutionary change in the country's political landscape. Alan Kyerematen has emerged as a key figure, strategically maneuvering behind the scenes to unite minor political parties and independent presidential candidates. Their collective aim is to challenge the dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and usher in a new era of governance.

Kyerematen's efforts are generating momentum, with positive responses and results emerging within days. The prospect of a massive third force in Ghanaian politics is on the horizon, symbolizing a shift away from the traditional binary politics of the NDC and NPP. This burgeoning coalition represents the aspirations of many Ghanaians for a more inclusive and dynamic political landscape, where alternative voices are given a platform and power is more evenly distributed.

As the butterfly metaphor suggests, the fluttering of wings signifies the stirring of change, and in the coming days, Ghanaians may indeed awaken to a transformed political reality characterized by greater diversity and representation.

VOLTA MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO LOSE SEATS EN MASSE!
In the Volta Region, the disillusionment among constituents with their Members of Parliament (MPs) has reached a tipping point. Feeling abandoned and neglected by those elected to represent them, many Voltarians have expressed their discontent by planning to oust incumbent MPs from their seats. This sentiment stems from a perceived lack of attention to local issues and failure to deliver on promises made during election campaigns.

In response to this dissatisfaction, the majority of Voltarians are rallying behind John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, they are strategically differentiating between the presidential and parliamentary ballots. While they intend to cast their votes for Mahama at the presidential level, they are planning to vote against NDC parliamentary candidates.

This intriguing split-ticket voting pattern highlights a significant shift in political dynamics within the Volta Region. It opens up a window of opportunity for independent parliamentary candidates to make inroads and potentially secure seats in the upcoming 2024 elections. With voters disillusioned with traditional party politics and seeking alternatives, independent candidates who can connect with constituents on a local level and address their concerns may find themselves with a realistic path to Parliament.

Kete cloth holds profound significance among various tribes in Ghana, serving as a traditional ceremonial garment. Agortime Kpetoe stands out as a notable hub for Kete cloth production, spanning generations with its rich heritage. Similarly, Bowire has garnered recognition for its contribution to the art of crafting Kete cloth.

The technique of weaving strands together to create Kete cloth exhibits striking resemblances across different cultures worldwide, from Egypt to Ethiopia, Nigeria to Congo. Despite geographical variations, Ghana maintains a consistent pattern in Kete cloth production, whether it's in Kpetoe, Bowire, or the northern regions.

Despite its widespread influence and cultural significance, the myth of a giant spider teaching Ghanaians to weave Kete cloth persists in some narratives. However, the truth lies in the ingenuity and craftsmanship of generations of Ghanaian weavers who have passed down their skills through the ages.

Moreover, the distinction between "Kete" and "Kente" holds linguistic and cultural weight. While "Kete" carries inherent meaning, the term "Kente" lacks explicit significance, highlighting the depth and symbolism embedded within the fabric of Ghanaian cultural heritage.

Valentine's Day, originally meant to honor the martyrdom of Saint Valentine and celebrate love, has morphed into a spectacle often associated with rampant promiscuity among the youth. The true essence of the day, focusing on genuine affection and appreciation, is often overshadowed by societal pressures and commercialization.

Modern Valentine's Day celebrations often prioritize materialistic gestures over heartfelt sentiments, leading to the commodification of love. The bombardment of advertisements promoting extravagant gifts and romantic escapades fuels consumerism rather than fostering genuine connections.

The emphasis on superficial displays of affection can inadvertently encourage promiscuity and irresponsible sexual behaviors, especially among impressionable youth. Instead of fostering healthy relationships built on mutual respect and understanding, the hyper-commercialization of Valentine's Day perpetuates a culture of instant gratification and superficial connections.

To reclaim the true spirit of Valentine's Day, it's essential to shift focus from materialistic displays to meaningful gestures and genuine expressions of love and appreciation.William Samoei RutooJohn Dramani MahamaaAlan John Kwadwo Kyerematenn@Samira BawumiaaNDC LOYAL LADIES GROUPPNew Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom))Samuel Okudzeto AblakwaaParliament of GhanaaGhana Health Service

In Ghana's political landscape, where rhetoric often overshadows substance, calls for a mental assessment of presidential candidates have gained traction. Dr. Akwasi Osei, esteemed CEO of the Ghana Mental Health Authority, emerges as a frontrunner for this critical task. With his extensive experience as Chief Psychiatrist and former Medical Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Osei embodies credibility and expertise in mental health evaluation.

Amidst concerns over candidates' erratic behavior and exaggerated promises, political observers advocate for stringent measures to ensure the country elects mentally fit leaders. The proposal to enlist Dr. Osei's expertise underscores the gravity of this issue and the need for a thorough assessment process. By scrutinizing candidates' mental aptitude, Ghana aims to safeguard its governance from potential instability and erratic decision-making.

As the 2024 presidential election looms, the push for mental health assessments reflects a growing awareness of the importance of psychological well-being in leadership. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to uphold the integrity of Ghana's constitutional process and prioritize the nation's collective welfare.
