Assessing the real environmental impact of a piece of food packaging is a complicated process, which can leave the door wide open to greenwashing claims✅

To remedy this, Australian sustainable packaging supplier BioPak has recently announced a partnership with environmental impact calculation software creator, Pickler. They've launched an 'eco-costs' tool with detailed sustainablity info so customers can make informed choices and/or report on their own business impact.

Did you know only 2% of packaging manufacturers and resellers have proof to support their sustainability claims? At BioPak, we’re taking a stand against green...

What the world needs now is more plastic-eating enzymes.😋

Australia's Samsara Eco has secured US$65m of funding to do just that.

The startup uses artificial intelligence to create new enzymes that can break down commonly used types of plastics, and plans to use its capital injection to build commercial facilities in Southeast Asia.

SYDNEY--An Australian company that has developed plastic-eating enzymes with the aim of recycling materials otherwise destined for landfills has raised about US$65 million in its latest funding round from backers including yoga-wear brand Lululemon. ⚡Is carbon a clean power source for the future?

Researchers from Australia’s University of Queensland (UQ) have built a small, proof-of-concept generator that can absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and generate electricity.

Unlike traditional carbon capture systems that simply trap the carbon to store or redeploy elsewhere, the UQ’s nanogenerator consumes the greenhouse gas rendering it carbon negative.

A plastic bottle, almost full to the brim with foam pieces of roughly 3mm-6mm in size.
We pulled this bottle out of a Seabin as is, which really paints a picture of just how massive the plastic pollution problem is. Although we are grateful to have removed this from the marine environment, we wish we didn't have to.

The Ocean Cleanup will soon be taking on plastic pollution in the rivers of India – starting in Mumbai.

To rid the oceans of plastic, The Ocean Cleanup says it must also stop the influx of waste leaking into the oceans from rivers.

It says its research has demonstrated that plastic emissions from rivers are the main source of ocean plastic pollution, with the most polluting rivers usually located near highly populated coastal cities like Mumbai.

The Ocean Cleanup has agreed its first partnership in India, teaming up with Bharat Clean Rivers Foundation to collaborate on their campaign to tackle plastic pollution in the nation’s rivers – starting in Mumbai.

As devastating wildfires rip through precious forests and grasslands worldwide amid prolonged dry spells and scorching temperatures, innovations focusing on risk mitigation will be crucial. 🏡🔥

One Australian startup on the case has developed a solution aimed at homeowners – and it recently won a high-profile financial backer after pitching on the TV show Shark Tank Australia.

The Fire Halo loods rooftop guttering systems via a water tank or mains water supply and was developed by cousins Frank Inzitari and Frank Capomolla to protect homes from ember attacks during bushfires.

The pair say that 80 per cent of bushfire damage to properties in rural areas is caused by embers rather than the bushfire front. Once a home’s gutters are saturated by their patented device, (which costs only a few hundred Australian dollars) they say the chance of embers setting gutter debris alight is significantly reduced.

The pair pitched for $100,000 in return for a 20 per cent stake in the business on a recent episode of the show, and ultimately accepted a counteroffer from Canadian entrepreneur, investor, and TV "shark” Robert Herjavec of $150,000 in return for a third of their company.

“We developed the Fire Halo following recent catastrophic bushfires when we noticed our neighbours up on their roof risking serious injury or worse, with hoses, sprinklers and clothing trying to fill and plug their gutters,” the founders said.

Fire Halo is a family company based in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

This solar racer built by university students in Australia has achieved a Guinness World Record for record travelling 1000km on a single solar charge in under 12 hours. ☀️⚡️

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) students claimed the record for the Fastest EV over 1000km on a single charge with their solar-powered lightweight prototype which travelled at an average of 85km/h on a test circuit.

The car, named Sunswift 7, weighs just 500kg and has an aerodynamic design and build. Electric vehicles with built-in solar panels are mostly still at the prototype stage around the world, although hopes are that the sun’s energy can significantly boost the range of EVs going forward.

The first wave of solar panels – which generally last for around 20 or 25 years – are now due for replacement. Ever wondered what happens to them after that? ☀️

Instead of tossing them into landfill, engineers at the University of NSW in Sydney have developed a recycling method that includes the use of stainless-steel balls to extract important elements such as silver from the panels quickly and efficiently and with little waste, effectively cracking the code on solar recycling. check it out...

Patented sieving process developed by research team at UNSW Sydney significantly improves the way important materials from photovoltaic panels can be separated and extracted for reuse.
