Kartik month is also known as Damodar month. The word "Dama" means rope, and "Udar" means belly. Mother Yashoda tied a rope around Krishna's belly and bound him to a grinding mortar when the Supreme Lord behaved mischievously. We should observe the month of Kartik by chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra and meditating on this pastime as well as how the Lord performed pastimes with the Gopis and Srimati Radharani in Vrindavan.

Lord Sri Krishna Chaitanya gave us the simplest way to practice spirituality and that is to chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. This practice will make us humble like a blade of grass, tolerant like a tree, and free from all forms of material appreciation, recognition, name, fame, and desires. It will also teach us to give due respect to everyone.

By doing so, we will bring peace into our lives, families, society, and country. These qualities will ultimately lead to peace in the entire universe. Therefore, we should chant and inspire others to chant as well.

“Krishna naam hote pabe krishner charan” – You will be able to reach the lotus feet of Krishna by chanting His Name. His name is the Hare Krishna Mahamantra, and the fruits of chanting will manifest when one is under the shelter of Krishna’s pure devotees. Due to material energy, we are always drawn to material happiness, but the happiness we experience here is short lived. To become free from this material attachment, we must seek the shelter of pure devotees, follow their instructions, and chant Krishna’s Holy Name – the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The closer we get to Krishna, the further away we move from materialism, and the happier we will be.

Offensive chanting increases material desires, and material desires continue to pull us back into this miserable material world. Chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra without offences increases our love for Krishna prema. This prema gives us the qualifications to serve the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. It is difficult to chant without committing offences, but it can be made easy by associating with pure devotees. Pure devotees chant without offence, so if we chant the Mahamantra under their guidance and shelter, then eventually we will be delivered from this miserable world and can enter the blissful spiritual abode as the servants of the Divine Couple – Sri Sri Radha Krishna.

In this material world, everybody is running after material gain,' and so Vaishnava practice is to change this direction. People should run in the opposite direction of materialism, towards spirituality, and establish a taste for spiritual gain to experience bliss.

How can we become blissful? It is stated in Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita, 'sadhu-sange krishna-nama ei matra cai samsara jinite āra kauna vastu nai' – chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra in the association of sadhus will free us from material appreciation, recognition, name, fame, and material desires.💛❤🙏
