This weekend, a new review was added in early access to the show's Patreon page. It'll go live on Wednesday at 5:00PM.

If you'd like to support continued production of the show, you can do so for as little as $1.00 per month (plus taxes.) Besides early access to new videos, backers also get an exclusive monthly update revealing what's going on behind the scenes, anything I've got hold of during the month, and sometimes a little ramble about anything I've been watching or reading.

Contributions from backers have enabled me to buy cabling and camera equipment for the show. And they get a credit at the end of each video as well!

The first video of 2021 is now live on YouTube! Head on over there, hit the subscribe button (if you haven't already) and give it a watch, why don't you?

Checking the page, it looks like Facebook ate the update for the last video. So here it is again!

Imagine, if you will, a scenario wherein Visceral Games' powerhouse sci-fi horror game Dead Space is thrown back in time to appear as a ZX Spectrum game. Wouldn't that be something?

Well, you needn't use your powers of imagination! Because somebody actually made a Speccy version of Dead Space a bit more recently, in 2013. I booted it up and ran it through its paces. Watch the video and see what I thought of it.

19/02/2020

Before the third season of the Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show starts, I've taken the opportunity to put together another of my irregular opinion pieces.

There's a been a lot of chatter online lately about the practice of 'e-begging' and creators who supplement (or replace) their YouTube income with crowdfunding. Some people REALLY don't like this, and it's lead to a great deal of bad feeling directed toward certain YouTubers and content streamers. But there's a bit more to this discussion than most folks seem to realise.

So here's my two cents on the matter. It's a long video (24 minutes) and to fully understand my take on it, you'll need to watch the whole thing. But hopefully it'll clear some things up.

Time for a special Tuesday shout out!

If you're keen to get the best picture quality from your old game consoles, you've probably already spent some time poring over Ebay and Amazon listings for sub-par, cheaply made cables. Well, forget those - Retro Gaming Cables are the go-to guys!

I'm proud to say that I use cabling from these guys almost exclusively. They're bit pricier than the kind of cables you'll find on the afore-mentioned sites, but quality is guaranteed. And with high quality after sales service, and options to cater to some very specific needs, they're a company that ought to be on every retro gamer's radar.

Just a quick reminder that the channel is currently still pretty small scale. There are some plans to expand next year, but it would REALLY help if the YouTube had a few more subscribers.

Subscriber counts on YouTube are more than just a number. Before a channel accrues 1,000 subs, a lot of useful functionality is held back from it.

If you enjoy the content that's uploaded there, please feel free to share it anywhere, tell your friends, and - if you haven't already - hit that subscribe button (You'll need to click the notificatrion bell icon as well to make sure you reliably receive updates when new content goes up.)

If I can reach 700 subscribers before season three airs next year, that would put me in a pretty good place.

Time for a quick reminder that, at present, the Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show is financed ENTIRELY by voluntary contributions from viewers via Ko-Fi.

Ko-Fi is a site that functions as a PayPal front-end - so it's completely safe - and allows folks to make a one-off contribution for the cost of a Starbucks coffee. Donations are, of course, never expected, but always very gratefully received. Just recently, they've enabled me to purchase equipment to bring Nintendo DS game reviews to the channel.

I'll be posting exclusive behind-the-scenes videos on Ko-Fi in the near future to let folks know what's going on with the show. These will always be free to view, unlike early access posts on Patreon. All you have to do is navigate to the site and find the appropriate post on my page to watch them.

If anybody feels inclined to make a contribution, their name will be added to the front end of a video by way of thanks.

HdE's Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show isn't by any means an exclusively retro channel. And to prove it, here's a review of HALO: REACH for the Xbox 360 - the last Halo game to be helmed by the series' original developers, Bungie.

I'm BIG into Halo, so expect some more games from the franchise to appear at some point in the future.

Wednesday's featured review from the show takes a look at a handheld version of one fo the all-time arcade greats - Taito's BUBBLE BOBBLE on the Sega Game Gear.

In this one, I take a look at how it differs from the Sega Master system port of the game, thus debunking a commonly held theory that the Game gear version is just that one squeezed down onto a smaller PCB in the cartridge.

29/07/2019

Over the weekend, I managed to install a few games on the hard-drive equipped PS2 console in my office. These include Warhammer 40,000 - Fire Warrior, a first person shooter based on the popular science fiction table-top game, and two rather special oddities.

Both the PS2 versions of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed are apparently quite different to versions of the game that appeared on other consoles. (Trust me - in the case of The Force Awakens, that's a very good thing!)

These kinds of games are always interesting ones to feature on the show. Does anyone know of any similar cases where games differed drastically across different platforms?
