Final day of our 2 week trip retrospective. Definitely saved the best for last. Stonehenge in the early morning before the crowds descended... ☀️
Walking by these stones up close was an overwhelmingly spiritual experience. They are so much bigger than they seem from a distance! Everyone was sort of hushed and in awe the whole time.
The ancient history. The sacred mystery of it all.
Took my shoes off to walk the mile of warm grassy hills away from the hill to our bus. Because you can't leave here without your barefeet touching the soil.
Packing up our suitcases and walking off the ship was sad. But, oh, the memories we made in those 14 days!
Here's hoping we'll be back someday.
European Vacay Retrospective Continues in the City of Light!
Our day in Paris was just as beautiful and romantic as the movies make it seem.
Walked the most famous bridge in Paris, saw the Eiffle Tower and Arc de Triumphe. The Arc was more jaw dropping and captivating than the tower - trust me! We nearly got killed running through the 5 lane roundabout to see and touch it up close, but that's a story for another day.
Strolling The Champs-Élysées boulevard, with all of its boutiques and gorgeous architecture, made me want to stay forever.
But my favourite? Dining Al Fresco at .paris. The loveliest street cafe ever. This lunch was worth the price tag. There's a reason it's a celebrity hot spot. Such a leisurely and delicious way to sit and watch the world go by.

We've changed a lot in two decades. (The photographic evidence between year ten in pic 5 and year twenty in pic 9...doesn't lie).
Highs, lows, grief, loss, laughter, joy. No one but the two of us knows how hard we fought for those six grinning faces in pic 7. As wide-eyed newlyweds, we had no clue how hard it would be to build our family and this life we share.
But we did it. We struggled, stumbled, and fought for this. And we did it with hands clutched tight to each other.
I no longer fit in the dress. But I still fit in your arms. You have always been, and will forever be, my person.

Beautiful Bon Echo camping this weekend. 10 years of camping together and our chubby babies have all turned into muscular teenage giants.
Edinburgh in Retrospect. Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Stunning architecture. The hop on hop off bus saved our feet here. A glimpse of me with my constant companion- a Travel book.
Chicago had nothing on this wind struck city! How royals lived on such a blustery rock for centuries is beyond me.
But it sure was beautiful.
Inverness / Lochness. What a dream. Urquhart Castle ruins. A cruise on the lake to try to spot the monster. And a walk through Culloden Battle Field...to find the burial mound of my Grandma's Ancestors - Clan Fraser, who fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Pictures and words can't describe the green and heatherered hills adequately. If you ever get the chance to walk the Highlands of Scotland - do it!
Giants Causeway, Antrim Coast, Dunluce Castle (of 'Game of Thrones' fame) retrospective. We skipped the Titanic Museum in Belfast port to explore this wild, rugged and jaw-droppingly beautiful corner of Ireland.
They say Giants Causeway was created by volcanic activity. But...walking on the multitude of perfectly carved hexagonal stones made us believe the old lore - of a Giant building a Bridge across the sea.
This was our last day in Ireland before moving into more of Scotland. I have to say: Ireland, you have my heart. We will be back someday, Lord willing...💚☘🍀
Retrospective of Glasgow and Stirling Castle, Scotland!
Impossibly green fields surrounded the city and gorgeous architecture in Glasgow.
The vibe of Glasgow was unexpectedly cool - buzzing with energy. Wish we could have stayed longer. (Ship was docked at Greenoch Port).
Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and all the history that Stirling entailed were mesmerizing. Fun imagining being part of those epic battles.
Perhaps the most interesting was learning to navigate the local train system to hop from city to city in one day - and accidentally riding first class the entire way. 😆
Retrospective of finding my roots: Dublin port!
Hired a personal guide who took us to Port Arlington, near Kildare. This was where my Fletcher and Cox ancestors lived before the Potato Famine saw them come to North America.
Found Fletchers still living there and running many businesses - including a hardware store, the local newspaper, and several farms. Toured the old churchyard where my great-great-great grandparents were married, the farm they lived on (the sweet owner welcomed us with a tour of the original home, still standing), followed by a tour of Dublin. Trinity college library, the book of Kells, and beautiful Dublin architecture.
Our guide was so knowledgeable, and helped explain the history of Port Arlington - and why my family was Protestant despite 95% of Ireland being Catholic. The town was founded originally by French Huguenots. Which explains some discrepancies on my DNA testing, lol...
This was an emotional day full of ancient stories, rich farm land and beauty. A dream come true.
Retrospective of our next Port: Cobh (Cork) Ireland. 🍀☘
This was our favourite location of the entire trip. County Cork, Tipperary, The Vee, Rock of Cashel Ruins. This area felt like coming home.
Beauty. Breathe.
Next Adventure Location: Falmouth / Cornwall.
A long overdue visit with my cousin and his lovely family - happy surprise that our port stop was close to their home. It was so good to receive a trademark bear hug from Jesse once more!
He introduced us to local Cornish Pasties (yum), Cornish Clotted Cream (it goes on the biscuit AFTER the jam, FYI). And Henry VIII's Cliffside vacation home- Pendennis Castle.
Falmouth was a beautiful, quaint and friendly sailing port. ⛵

12 nights on this incredible ship. A beautiful, convenient way to get to each city on our itinerary. All-inclusive delicious food, amazing entertainment, gorgepus pools and spa, comfiest bed and stateroom ever. Best part: waking up to a new city to explore every morning.

"Fatherhood requires love, not DNA."
This day brings up a myriad of emotions for some - not everyone likes Father's Day. It's an occasion laced with grief and loss for many.
In our family, we secretly ache for the missing Fathers. They are always on our mind and we hope they know how much they are loved and honoured, even from far away. Each day we try to parent in a way thay we hope makes the families of origin of our children proud.
Today I look at my husband and am forever thankful for the role he has played.
*In trying to pick up broken pieces and make them whole again.
*In parenting trauma and neurodiversity.
*In showing love, kindness and patience in the face of heartbreak.
He can teach our kids the proper way to knot a tie and swing a hammer. But, he also teaches them grace, forgiveness, humor, and hardwork. Most of all, he has taught our children that they are cherished. That he wants the best for them. That he likes being around them. That they belong.
Today brings brokenness, but also healing.

The Haskaps are ready!🫐🫐🫐
If you've never tried haskaps, they taste like a cross between a tart raspberry and a Blueberry. They grow much better in our area than blueberries. Very high in antioxidants.
We eat them plain, make muffins or pancakes with them. Birds love these, so you need a net! 🐦🐦
First rhubarb pie of the season. 🥧
Every year of my life since before I can remember, there was a rhubarb patch in our backyard. And there was warm, fresh Rhubarb Pie every May. And it was always Bev's recipe.
Some people don't love repetition, but I find certain traditions life-giving and precious. Bev's rhubarb pie is one of them.
There's something about going from patch to pie in only a few hours that can't be replicated in any restaurant.

This little piece of architecture is one of my favourite spots. My husband and Dad built it from a drawing I made years ago.

Since today is rainy in Ontario, we planted a tree last night, as is becoming our new tradition for Arbor Day. Behold the gorgeous 'Galaxy Magnolia' from our local nursery. I have never made homemade steamed buns before. It took hours. Lol. The kids say these aren't quite the same as at WDW, but are still really good.
Tonight for ... "Ronto Wraps" from Galaxy's Edge, Hollywood Studios!
There is an entire pork chop AND a sausage in each wrap! Delicious, but only 1 kid could finish their dinner - very unusual if you know the teenage appetites around here. 😆 American portions at their finest!
My favourite part was the homemade tzaziki sauce. Yummy...
