Finally, the FINALE! In this last episode of the podcast, we reflect on all that’s come before. But for once, we don’t just have stories to gab about. We've got stats, baby! That’s right, we took our 75 total interactions and got the hard, cold numbers behind the numbers. Which is to say, we polished what is otherwise a collection of totally subjective anecdotes with a quantitative veneer.

We also talk about where we’re headed, our biggest regrets, and what we’ve learned from these experiences—and from making a podcast about them. So sit back, crack open a beer (we did!), and let’s land this plane together. Link. In. Bio!

When Mariah and Number 16 left their belongings in a storage unit at the beginning of the summer, they didn't bother packing their items into separate boxes. Why would they? Soon enough, they'd be back to pick up where they left off.

Alas, things didn't turned out as planned. The following September, they found themselves extricating their belongings from a series of shared cardboard boxes, just a couple months after Mariah broke up with Number 16 via satellite phone.

In Number 4: Older Men, the podcast ho(st)s meet a couple of older dudes. Older than them, anyway. These mark their first, but hardly their last, experiences dating older men. The age gap in heteros*xual couples is something we rarely question.

It's only now that the podcast ho(st)s stopped to ask themselves why a 24 year old would be interested hanging out with a girl who just graduated high school.

Mona Chalabi has taken a long hard look at the data. Check out her op-ed, "I Want My 2.3 Bonus Years" in the New York Times or her interview with Andrea Silenzi on the still relevant and sorely missed Why Oh Why Podcast.

On an individual level, every relationship has its validity, no matter the age difference. But when we take a step back and look at the aggregate data, it's clear that women who date men are often dating older guys.Young women are seen to be more mature than young men. Why? Men find younger women more attractive. Why? Women are under pressure to head the tick-tock of their biological clock. But what if they weren't?

[[Sound on 🔊 ]] Just because something doesn’t end Happily Ever After doesn’t mean it has to end painfully. On What’s Your Number? the podcast ho(st)s use the term “shaker-handers” to celebrate the people who leave you better off than how they found you. There’s no ripping out or stomping on hearts. Just solid communication and a parting of ways when the time comes.

These relationships don’t get many ballads written about them and are rarely the subjects of romantic comedies or opera arias. But they deserve more credit than they receive. Sometimes shaker-handers teach you valuable lessons that you take with you for the rest of your life.

This is the case for the shaker-hander featured in episode Number 3: Nuts and Bolts, who happens to be a mechanic who’s quite good with his hands ;) He creates a space for real exploration in search of s*xual satisfaction, a rare and beautiful thing in and of itself, especially so early on in someone’s s*xual journey.
