The January issue of HotLINX is now available to view and download from the LINX website.

Our main story is news on LINX's strategic partnership with STC, the Saudi Telecoms Company. We explain how the two organisations have come together to help set up JED-IX, a new Internet exchange in Jeddah.

Elsewhere in this edition we have a guest article by Vinay Nagpal of InterGlobix who talks about the resurgence of subsea projects around the world. In our event pages there's a preview of the 14th Global Peering Forum plus we have an interview with founder and Chairman of Zen Internet, Richard Tang.

Please note that extended versions of Vinay's article and Richard's interview will appear on the LINX website in the coming days.

Also in HotLINX we cover the 15% reductions on port fees at LON1, LON2 and LINX NoVA and another new partnership, with Japan IX, who have signed up via the IXP Reseller programme.

A rebranded, revamped and expanded version the LINX magazine HotLINX is about to go live! Look out for further announcements very VERY soon

We're in the preparation and planning stage for the next edition of HotLINX which will be published in the new year. It's going to be revamped and redesigned but what kind of articles and features would you like to see included? Are there any particular topics you want to see more analysis on? There will be more emphasis on a user friendly online edition but what about printed copies? Is the current compact size the right format or should we use a more standard A4 size? This is your chance to make a suggestion so drop us a line or email us at [email protected] with your ideas.

LINX has published a special expanded 24 page edition of its membership magazine, HotLINX, to mark its 50th issue. The lead story is news that London has been revealed as the most connected city in the world following research by the Wireless Broadband Alliance.

HotLINX began as an eight page newsletter and has undergone a number of redesigns since then. Readers can see just how many for themselves by turning to page 23 where all 49 previous covers can be viewed.

HotLINX was first published in the year 2000 and the Internet world then is very different to the one we live in today. As the telecoms landscape has evolved so have the subjects that have been covered. For this edition we look a range of industry topics such as IoT and cloud services as well as other technical topics including route servers, automation and DDoS.

This edition also features a review of the LINX AGM and Board Elections in May. Seb Lahtinen was re-elected for a second three year term along with Lee Hetherington, Edge Network Strategist at Facebook. Lee has been interviewed in the 'In the Spotlight' feature on page 21.

INDUSTRY NEWS

In our industry news pages we report on what could Ofcom’s new UK Code of Practice mean for ISPs, the end of mobile roaming charges in the EU and the facts and figures behind EE’s Glastonbury temporary network. There is also a report on the merger of Digital Realty and DuPont Fabros Technology in $7.6 billion deal.

EVENTS

In a four page events section we preview LINX98 in Manchester and the 12th European Peering Forum in Lisbon which take place in August and September respectively. We also feature LINX's first trip India for the South Asian Network Operators Group which began just as HotLINX went to press as well as look back at LINX's involvement at London Tech Week held during June.
