British wool special: in this issue we’re featuring fibres from sheep that live all the way up in the Outer Hebrides right down to ones grazing the grass of southern Cornwall, with notable stop-offs in Yorkshire and Hampshire on the way. As well as those lovely sheepy shades we’ve got some beautiful greens reminiscent of our green and pleasant land to set them off. And we’re looking behind the wool, with in-depth interviews with Yorkshire’s Laxtons , Cornwall’s and Sophie Hetherington Heywood, a fibre artist who sells a range of rare-breed wools under the name . Plus we meet Lisa Chamoff of , who has devoted her life to putting independent dyers in touch with the knitters who want to buy their wares, and take a look at what’s in store from major yarn brands for the upcoming autumn and winter knitting season.

The L shawl was inspired by ’s first trip to Chicago and seeing in person the king truss structures supporting the famous elevated railway – the L. A lace pattern evokes this along with plenty of squishy garter stitch for a relaxing knit. The shawl features a gradual colour shift for an ombré effect and is finished with a chevron border. Its two wings are asymmetrical to make styling easy.

These glorious Lamorna Cove Socks, inspired by remote and secluded Lamorna Cove in Cornwall, are a sock knitter’s delight with an intricate pattern of crossed stitches and cables – and the option to work them with or without a cable needle. This curved lacy Wavelength shawl is inspired by the rhythmic breaking of waves on a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach and the long curving ocean coves. The shape is created by knitting an elongated right-angled triangle to the shawl’s full width, followed by a straight section and then a decreasing elongated triangle to the final point. The wave stitch pattern is worked with lines of eyelets that move back and forth across the knitting, connected with bands of garter stitch.

✨Behind the cover✨
This issue’s cover features Stormy Seas top and Oceanus shawl. The sea-inspired shawl in a beautiful hand-dyed yarn is made in two parts: the first is an increase section starting from a garter tab cast on, then this is cast off and stitches are picked up along one side for the second section, which decreases towards its final point.
The open-backed sleeveless top, in a glorious shade of teal named Jewel Sea, is light and airy enough for even the hottest days. It is knitted from the neck down, with the backs and front worked separately to the underarms, and then the body worked in one piece, back and forth. Simple lace panels at each edge complete the look.
