‘Tin Can’, composed by saxophonist and composer Andy Scott, is an energetic, melodic and groove orientated work commissioned by saxophonist Kyran Matthews. The piece was premiered by Matthews at the Royal Northern college of Music in June 2013 on piano and saxophone. This arrangement, with added bass and drums was premiered at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2017, and is now available as a hard copy score or digital download sheet music at astute-music.com ✨🎷

‘I was drawn to the rebellious exuberance of Joan Miró’s painting ‘The Singing Fish’. It’s colourful and bold, radiating a great sense of fun, whilst also being slightly strange. This is my musical depiction of Miró’s fish!’ - Lucy Armstrong ✨
Composed by London based composer Lucy Armstrong (an electric and theatrical composer, whose work has been showcased on the BBC and performed around the world), The Singing Fish was commissioned by Gillian Blair, and showcased at the European saxophone congress in Porto (2007) by Gillian Blair and David Gibson.

“Australia and it’s beautiful coast and surrounding seas holds a strange fascination for me. I imagined stunning underwater scenes when writing this piece of music; deep and murky waters, the sun shining into the shallower areas, fish suddenly darting past, silvery flashes of light, the unexpected around every corner, whilst time itself seems to be in slow motion” - Andy Scott🎷
‘Deep Blue’ was commissioned and funded by Alex Bradbury and dedicated to Australian saxophonist Erin Royer. This lyrical duet takes the player and listener of an immersive journey through soaring melody lines and jazz inspired harmony, surfacing from the depths at the end of the piece and coming to a tranquil close🌊.

‘Scales for Obsessives’ explores the method in which each scale is played with a 4 note chord, derived from the root, third, fifth and seventh of each scale. This creates a connection between the scale and the chord, and the scale is no longer perceived in isolation; it now exists in context, bridging the gap between practicing scales and improvising freely over chord changes. This incredibly detailed and thorough method will allow you to understand how scales interact with chords and vice versa, and how single scales can be used over a variety of different chords. ‘My Mountain Top’ was originally written for the Apollo Saxophone Quartet, commissioned by the ISCM World Music Days, the piece was premiered by the ASQ and Lemn at the 1998 ISCM Festival in Manchester, UK, and subsequently recorded on the ASQ album ‘Words & Pictures’. This composition is available in an array of instrumentation arrangements including saxophone, alto flute, euphonium and tuba. Nemesis (composed between 1996-1998) is a three movement work composed in a contemporary classical style with a jazz and Latin twist. This release has been performed worldwide and appears on the albums ‘Pluckblow’ by Craig Ogden and ‘The Bad Tempered Flute’ by Paul Edmund-Davies. Nemesis is also scored for flute and vibraphone as well as sax and percussion and are available through the Astute website (link in bio)!
