‘Tin Can’, composed by saxophonist and composer Andy Scott, is an energetic, melodic and groove orientated work commissioned by saxophonist Kyran Matthews. The piece was premiered by Matthews at the Royal Northern college of Music in June 2013 on piano and saxophone. This arrangement, with added bass and drums was premiered at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2017, and is now available as a hard copy score or digital download sheet music at astute-music.com ✨🎷

‘I was drawn to the rebellious exuberance of Joan Miró’s painting ‘The Singing Fish’. It’s colourful and bold, radiating a great sense of fun, whilst also being slightly strange. This is my musical depiction of Miró’s fish!’ - Lucy Armstrong ✨

Composed by London based composer Lucy Armstrong (an electric and theatrical composer, whose work has been showcased on the BBC and performed around the world), The Singing Fish was commissioned by Gillian Blair, and showcased at the European saxophone congress in Porto (2007) by Gillian Blair and David Gibson.

“Australia and it’s beautiful coast and surrounding seas holds a strange fascination for me. I imagined stunning underwater scenes when writing this piece of music; deep and murky waters, the sun shining into the shallower areas, fish suddenly darting past, silvery flashes of light, the unexpected around every corner, whilst time itself seems to be in slow motion” - Andy Scott🎷

‘Deep Blue’ was commissioned and funded by Alex Bradbury and dedicated to Australian saxophonist Erin Royer. This lyrical duet takes the player and listener of an immersive journey through soaring melody lines and jazz inspired harmony, surfacing from the depths at the end of the piece and coming to a tranquil close🌊.

This saxophone quartet by Mike Smith entitled ‘Bossa Scouser’ can also be played with an optional pre-recorded rhythm section. Inspired by traditional Bossa Nova with a twist of modern jazz harmony, there are opportunities throughout for soprano and tenor solos which can be extended as desired. The ‘recording minus one’ style of backing tracks available allow each musician to practice individually, or a full quartet to practice to rhythm section track.
