Film Friday!

This week’s pick goes to Sour World, a 30 minute narrative short by Fredericton, New Brunswick’s Ryan O’Toole. 30 minutes can be a difficult runtime to pull off but Ryan’s film keeps you engaged.

A lonely girl named Sandy struggles to connect with people as she wanders around her small, maritime city eating candy and drinking pink lemonade wine. Check out this feverish gem shot on miniDV.

I'm super happy and excited to finally announce that Ryan O'Toole has joined Columbus Avenue Pictures!! We've collaborated on several projects in the past, and share a common interest in one-off storytelling. CAP's newest production is Ryan's upcoming film Sour World which features Abigail Smith, and was shot by Michael Mohan. This film embraces lo-fi video and is the portrait of an apathetic girl wandering in and out of various lives one summer night. It's fantastic, and I can't wait for it to hit the festival circuit. We've got a few more projects in the works, 2016 is going to be a magic year!

Marigolds is a small, strange film, made with love and friendship, through the support of artsNB and the film co-op. Thank you Silver Wave for recognizing Matt Carr with an Excellence in Editing nomination (he's brilliant!), and thanks for nominating me for screenwriting! Thank you for awarding it with Best New Brunswick Short Film, and most of all thank you to the viewers for awarding it Viewer's Choice! So glad s***m is not an audience deterrent here in NB!

I had the pleasure and the time of my life studying with Judith again this week. I've never seen anyone do what she does, she calls it 30 years experience, but I think there's a little magic in the mix. - with Judith Weston Studio for Actors & Directors

I'm a bit superstitious and I generally don't make public announcements about what I'm working on until it's being shot, but I'm making an exception. I'm really proud and excited to announce that my feature script "Wheat Kings" has received development funding from both Telefilm Canada and Super Channel!

A very special thank you to my producer at Shore Road Pictures, Gia Milani. Yay!

Ryan agreed to play a fictionalized version of himself in my next film. No strings attached. Naturally, I'm killing his s***m count.

Produced by Lalesha Railsback and myself!

The Art of Decay (CBC/Telefilm 3-2-1 Winner 2011) will screen at NB Shorts II on November 10th. This film was Executive Produced by Gia Milani and Tony Whalen, written by Fonya Irvine, and directed by Jillian Acreman (me!).
