Perfect day at Wogonga Inlet 👌🏽

I still can’t get over this encounter yesterday.

This absolutely beautiful shark swimming so close to shore. A few people unknowingly swimming, at times, 3 metres from it (I did let them know there was a shark swimming by just in case)

This probably happens a lot more than people are aware of and more often than not, without any issues as attacks on humans are statistically rare.

Finally back underwater 🪼

It’s been a hot minute with terrible conditions and an ear infection post Tonga I’ve been a little land locked.

Wasn’t the nicest, with a fair bit of swell this arvo and winds increasing but the vis was surprisingly okay. Regardless, I’m just happy to be back where I’m happiest. In the sea 🌊

A morning riding in the bush and an arvo in the sea. This is truly paradise 💙

Missing winter and the crystal clear vis, no wind and mornings spent with my sea friends.

I’ve been super happy to get back in the water after a stint with an ear infection but it’s certainly not the nicest time of year.

A few things about me:

1. I’ll never turn down the opportunity for an adventure.

2. Life is never dull with me….

just ask my kids who were one minute, walking to the beach for a swim and next minute being thrown into the car and boarded onto a ship, shoeless and according to a very concerned son… “full of milk” after chugging three glasses and heading out to sea, not the greatest combo 😂

Both of them completely unaware that their mum would somehow land three more tickets to a sold out trip onboard the Windeward Bound only ten minutes before setting sail. To be fair, I’m often also unaware of what I’ll do next so it was a surprise for all of us 😂

Those closest to me know my latest hyperfocus has been sailing and my mission to buy a monohull. This has only made my obsession worse ⛵️

“Éclade de Moules”

There’s something really primal and satisfying about harvesting your own food, lighting a fire and cooking it in intense heat.

Additionally, diving also happens to be one of the most sustainable methods of gathering food with the ability to target specific species, take only what is needed and on a small scale. We are lucky on the far south coast that things like mussels are incredibly abundant and easy to harvest. Personally, they’re my favourite seafood treat!

This particular French recipe also calls for pine needles of which we use to cook/flash smoke the mussels before bathing them in a rich herbed olive oil.
These pine needles also harvested from the cliffs.

Nothing tastes better than food worked for. And nothing makes me happier than a morning on the water 🌊

I will be posting a recipe for this later on! Keep your eyes peeled.

Did you know the Gilli islands is known as the sea turtle capital of the world and it’s easy to see why after diving around the Gillis and seeing so many 😍

Fun facts:

💙 Lombok is home to Leatherback, Green, Loggerhead and Hawksbill sea turtles.

💙 Sea Turtles use the earth’s magnetic field to guide them on their long journeys at sea

💙 the s*x of the embryo can be dependent on the temperature of the nest?

💙 Sea turtles mature after about 20 years, so seeing the giant sea turtles was an absolute highlight when considering how old it might be!

💙 Did you know all species of sea turtles are endangered and need protection.
