Belgian Blues Challenge 2024: Your Time to Shine!

Attention all blues bands and solo/duo acts! Once again, the Belgian Blues Federation is on the lookout for talented musicians who will proudly represent Belgium at the European Blues Challenge in Split, Croatia (April 3-5, 2025) and the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, USA (January 2026). This incredible opportunity awaits the winner(s) of the Belgian Blues Challenge 2024.

If the blues flows through your veins and resonates in every note you play, then this is your chance to take your musical career to the next level. Don't hesitate! The application period will remain open until April 30. From the pool of applications, the Belgian Blues Federation - with input from its esteemed members - will carefully select eight finalists. These will battle it out for victory on October 5, during the live final at the renowned Zik-Zak in Ittre.

Finalisten Belgian Blues Challenge 2023 bekend

Op 14 oktober vindt de live-finale van de Belgian Blues Challenge plaats in VTC de Mixx in Herselt.
Dit evenement is een productie van het (Ge)Varenwinkelfestival maar wordt voor het eerst gecoördineerd door de gloednieuwe vzw Belgian Blues Federation (BBF).
Een team rond de bestuursleden van de BBF heeft alle aangemelde bands beoordeeld op originaliteit, vocaal en instrumentaal talent, podiumprésence en 'blues content’.
Deze preselectie leverde acht finalisten op. De volgorde waarin ze tijdens de finale hun set zullen spelen werd door loting bepaald:

Aangezien de BBF lid is van zowel de European Blues Union als van The Blues Foundation kan België de winnaars in 2024 afvaardigen naar de European Blues Challenge in Portugal en in 2025 naar de International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

De Belgian Blues Federation stelt zich tot doel om de blues in België te promoten, samenwerking tussen organisaties en muzikanten onderling te bevorderen, de toegang tot informatie over en contacten in de blues te faciliteren en te fungeren als een open forum voor de uitwisseling van ideeën en expertise tussen de leden. De coördinatie van de Belgian Blues Challenge 2023 is hun eerste officiële activiteit. In de toekomst zullen nog meer initiatieven volgen, zoals een blues in the schools-project, Belgian Blues Awards en een Belgian Blues Relief Fund.

Les finalistes du Belgian Blues Challenge 2023 sont connus

Le 14 octobre, la finale en live du Belgian Blues Challenge aura lieu au VTC de Mixx à Herselt.
Cet événement est une production du Festival (Ge)Varenwinkel, mais il est coordonné pour la première fois par la toute nouvelle asbl Belgian Blues Federation (BBF).
Une équipe comprenant les membres du conseil d'administration de la BBF a jugé tous les groupes inscrits en fonction de leur originalité, de leur talent vocal et instrumental, de leur présence sur scène et de leur 'contenu blues’.
Cette présélection a permis de dégager huit finalistes. L'ordre dans lequel ils joueront leur set lors de la finale a été déterminé par tirage au sort :

Comme la BBF est membre de l'European Blues Union et du Blues Foundation, la Belgique peut envoyer les gagnants au European Blues Challenge au Portugal en 2024 et à l'International Blues Challenge à Memphis en 2025.

La Belgian Blues Federation a pour objectif de promouvoir le blues en Belgique, de favoriser la coopération entre les organisations et les musiciens, de faciliter l'accès à l'information et aux contacts dans le domaine du blues et de servir en tant que forum ouvert pour l'échange d'idées et d'expertise entre ses membres. Belgian Blues Federation organiseert Belgian Blues Challenge 2023

Tot 30 juni 2023 kunnen Belgische bluesbands zich aanmelden voor deelname aan de Belgian Blues Challenge. Nieuw is dat de winnaars niet alleen naar de European Blues Challenge worden gestuurd, maar ook naar de International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Dat komt omdat de Belgian Blues Challenge vanaf deze editie wordt georganiseerd door de gloednieuwe VZW Belgian Blues Federation. Deze vereniging, aangesloten bij The Blues Foundation en European Blues Union, stelt zich tot doel om de blues in België te promoten, samenwerking tussen organisaties en muzikanten onderling te bevorderen, de toegang tot informatie over en contacten in de blues te faciliteren en te fungeren als een open forum voor de uitwisseling van ideeën en expertise tussen de leden.

Een blues in the schools-project, Belgian Blues Awards en een Belgian Blues Relief Fund zijn nog maar enkele van de extra initiatieven die de Belgian Blues Federation (BBF) op termijn gaat ontwikkelen. Eerst gaat alle aandacht naar de opstart van de communicatie rond de nieuwe vereniging en de preselectie voor de Belgian Blues Challenge (BBC). De vorige edities waren een initiatief van enkele Belgische leden van de European Blues Union. Die maken nu ook deel uit van het bestuur van de BBF.

De Belgische selectie voor de 12de editie van de European Blues Challenge in 2024 én de International Blues Challenge 2025 is van start gegaan. Uit alle kandidaturen zal het bestuur van VZW Belgian Blues Federation acht finalisten kiezen. Die zullen het tegen elkaar opnemen tijdens de live-finale van de Belgian Blues Challenge op 14 oktober 2023 in VTC de Mixx in Herselt. Dit evenement is een productie van het (Ge)Varenwinkelfestival.

De vorige winnaars van de Belgian Blues Challenge waren Howlin' Bill, Lightnin' Guy, Hideaway, Fred & The Healers, Doghouse Sam & His Magnatones, Tiny Legs Tim, The BluesBones, Ed & The Gators, Black Cat Biscuit, Steven Troch Band en Özgür Hazar's Blues Syndicate. Belgische bands die zich geroepen voelen om in hun voetsporen te treden en een stap richting de internationale podia te zetten, moeten zich voor 30 juni inschrijven.

Wat te doen?

Blues moet het DNA van jouw muziek zijn.

Inschrijven gebeurt via het formulier op www.belgianblueschallenge.be. Je bezorgt

ons het volgende: de audiobestanden van drie nummers, een live-videoclip, een

foto, een biografie, de samenstelling van jouw bluesband en jouw contactgegevens.

Deadline voor inschrijvingen is 30 juni 2023.

Door in te schrijven verklaar je je akkoord met de spelregels van de BBC (zie

www.belgianblueschallenge.be).

Door in te schrijven verklaar je dat jouw bluesband beschikbaar is om, indien

geselecteerd, op 14 oktober 2023 te spelen tijdens de finale van de BBC in Herselt.

Eind juli worden de acht finalisten bekendgemaakt.

Jusqu'au 30 juin 2023, les groupes de blues belges peuvent poser leur candidature afin de participer au Belgian Blues Challenge. Ce qui est nouveau, c'est que les gagnants ne seront pas seulement envoyés à l'European Blues Challenge, mais aussi à l'International Blues Challenge à Memphis. En effet, à partir de cette édition, le Belgian Blues Challenge sera organisé par la toute nouvelle association sans but lucratif 'Belgian Blues Federation'. Cette association, affiliée à The Blues Foundation et European Blues Union, a pour but de promouvoir le blues en Belgique, de favoriser la coopération entre les organisations et les musiciens, de faciliter l'accès à l'information et aux contacts dans le domaine du blues et d'agir comme un forum ouvert pour l'échange d'idées et d'expertise entre ses membres.

Un projet de blues dans les écoles, les Belgian Blues Awards et le Belgian Blues Relief Fund ne sont que quelques-unes des initiatives supplémentaires que la Belgian Blues Federation (BBF) développera au fil du temps. Tout d'abord, toute l'attention sera portée sur le lancement de la communication autour de la nouvelle association et de la présélection pour le Belgian Blues Challenge (BBC). Les éditions précédentes étaient une initiative de certains membres belges de l'European Blues Union. Ceux-ci font désormais partie du conseil d'administration de la BBF.

Ce qu'il faut faire:

Le blues doit être l'ADN de votre musique.

L'inscription se fait via le formulaire à l'adresse www.belgianblueschallenge.be.

Vous nous fournissez les éléments suivants: les fichiers audio de trois chansons, un clip vidéo live, une photo, une biographie, la composition de votre groupe de blues et vos coordonnées.

La date limite de l'inscription est fixée au 30 juin 2023.

En participant, vous acceptez les règles du jeu du BBC (voir

www.belgianblueschallenge.be).

En participant, vous déclarez que votre groupe de blues est disponible, s'il est

sélectionné, pour jouer à la finale du BBC à Herselt le 14 octobre 2023.

Les huit finalistes seront annoncés à la fin du mois de juillet.
