De tous les groupes ayant fleuri sur la Côte Ouest dans les années 1960, un seul semble avoir atteint le statut de légende : Grateful Dead. Le mythe naît en 1967 sur les collines de San Francisco, dans le quartier de Haight-Ashbury, en plein "été de l'amour". D'emblée, Jerry Garcia (leader et guitariste du groupe, disparu en 1995) et ses complices cristallisent autour de leur projet musical toutes
les aventures artistiques, mystiques ou sociales de cette époque de profonde effervescence : les graphismes hallucinés de Rick Griffin, les écrits de la Beat Generation, le rock psychédélique, les religions indiennes et tibétaines, l'esprit libertaire et les philosophies hippies du retour à la nature, de l'amour libre et de l'usage sans modération des drogues en tout genre. C'est pourquoi, ce blog a été crée afin de vous faire partager cette époque unique où Jerry Garcia va servir de guide tout au long de notre voyage. Découvrez ou re-découvrez les Sixties...les artistes qui ont marqué cette époque (Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin...et tant d'autres), la Beat generation (Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, Kesey...), le cinéma, la littérature (essentiellement Beat mais aussi celle de Jerry...), l'art psychédélique, les personnages qui ont marqué l'histoire à ce moment là (Martin Luther King...).
