I started my career hand beading gowns in the 80’s for Melbourne evening wear designers John Claringbold and Ross Waymouth, designing my own gowns for the Australian Gown of the Year and selling my own hand made gowns and lingerie in Salon Marquette in Maling Road Canterbury in the 90’s so I was excited to see Chanel’s exquisite silk 1920’s and 30’s gowns.

Up close (unfortunately not visible in the photos) you can see the complexity of pattens created with such intricate silks and lace to drape on the form on the models. Chanel was known for designing on the mannequin and it is truly breathtaking to see the quality of the stitching and construction of such fine fabrics.

Her later works like the classic Chanel suits really were the new era of feminine power suits that changed world of fashion with textures and wool weave colour blends that have come to be her signature and are truly iconic. The jewellery created for her collection designed in collaboration with Chanel were bold and led the way for the costume jewellery of today.

The Chanel exhibition at the is drawn from the Palais Galliera and the Patrimoine de CHANEL, plus some item from the NGV and includes the heritage collections of the fashion house in Paris from the 20’s to the 60’s. It’s a must see for anyone who has a live of fashion, jewellery, pattern making snd sewing.

Collecting and painting rocks and shells whilst on summer holiday is something I’ve always loved and shared with m son, so when I saw the exhibition at the NGV of these Japanese painted shells I had to go. In Japan Kai-awase is a game of memory and historically shell interiors were painted with matching scenes from classical Japanese literature, including the Tale of Genji and Tales of Ise. For the first time in the history of the game, shells painted in the traditional Japanese yamato-e and rinpa style feature designs of Japanese and Australian flowers produced by master lacquer artist Kitamura ‘Unryuan’ Tatsuo, who coordinated a team of more than forty artists and artisans from Wajima, Kyoto and other regions of Japan. The collection was exhibited along side the olfactory incense game and exquisitely crafted lacquer artworks. These were games where the Japanese would play strategy games with elaborate score boards based or recognition of aromas.

If anyone’s looking for a great way to tone up and keep motivated with your exercise the Ringfit on Nindendo is great fun and I notice my muscle tone improved in just a few days of doing it. I’m back to my routine of doing about 25 minutes 5 days a week on top of my yoga and walking and I feel so much stronger! Def give it a try!!!

Revisiting my personal goals. I’m used to developing work and career goals but personal and wellness goals are just as important. Writing them down helps you to be mindful and check yourself, reflect and reset and realign your daily activities to ensure you’re living the life you desire. In the end it’s a conscious choice to choose activities to get you where you want to be.

I’m fortunate enough to have witnessed the Remembrance Day service at the local RSL from my balcony. So in between online meetings I listened to the hunting solo of Advance Australia Fair and the trumpet solute and the somber minutes silence. Those few minutes I took to reflect seem to pale in contribution significance to those that sacrificed their lives to ensure the freedom and human rights of others.
