I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: 'Successful Alcoholics' | VICE United States

WATCH: My new "I'm Short, Not Stupid" VICE article is about the hilarious short film SUCCESSFUL ALCOHOLICS by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. It stars Lizzy Caplan, T.J. Miller, Nick Kroll and more. A much loved short from 2010 it played Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, and landed on WHOLPHIN DVD. Vogt-Roberts debut feature The Kings of Summer opens today and looks like one of the funniest contemporary coming-of-age stories for wayward teens.

In this short film, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and starring Lizzy Caplan and T.J. Miller, a couple is awesome at life despite being hammered all the time. But when alcohol is taken out of the equ…

I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: 'How to Live with Bedbugs' | VICE United States

WATCH: My new VICE column is about the funniest tutorial you will ever see on being miserable in the company of bedbugs. Filmmaker John Wilson kills it, even if he can't kill the bedbugs.

I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: 'I, an Actress' | VICE United States

New VICE post for my short film column "I'm Short, Not Stupid." This week it's about the wonderful and weird George Kuchar, who is in PRISM index #1. Check out George's 1977 attempt at a Hollywood actor screen test. It's off the wall.

In 'I, an Actress,' legendary cult filmmaker George Kuchar takes over an aspiring actresses real screen test to show her how to do it right—groping his chest and groaning out her lines like, "I’m on m…

I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: 'Tastes Like Chicken' | VICE United States

My newest VICE short film column is on the beautiful, haunting and moving hybrid documentary, "Tastes Like Chicken?" by Quico Mierelles. You might know his father's films: City of God, The Constant Gardener, and Blindness, but Quico's got a voice and style all his own. The film is attached and is absolutely worth watching.

'Tastes Like Chicken' is Quico Meirelles riveting short, which is tells the story of a chicken living in a factory farm who miraculously becomes self-aware. As the chicken achieves lucidity, she despe…

I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: 'Spider' | VICE

Last week I debuted Bear by Nash Edgerton. This week is its predecesor Spider. Both are pitch-perfect examples of utilizing the form and structure of the short film to the story's advantage. They are also perfect examples of what not to do to your girlfriend. Check them out!

I think everyone can relate to the main character, Jack, who's always running headfirst into things and not thinking them through. You can see the climax of this short coming a mile away, but when it

I'm Short, Not Stupid Presents: Bear | VICE

Check out the online premiere I did with VICE shorts of the darkly comic film Bear by Nash Edgerton today. One of the most acclaimed shorts of last year playing Cannes, Sundance, and 1,000,000 other festivals. It's a standalone sequel to 2007's wonderfully fu**ed up short Spider.

Nash Edgerton's 'Bear' is not a classic story of two lovers, two lovers fighting, two lovers making up, and two lovers living happily ever after. It's darkly comic, expertly executed, and has a stunni…

NFB - Welcome to Pine Point

One of the absolute best new media projects I have seen. Interactive videos, interviews, photographs, and more about the lost and not forgotten city of Pine Point.

Imagine your hometown never changed. That no one ever grew old or moved on. Part book, part film, part family photo album, Welcome to Pine Point unearths a place frozen in time and discovers what happens when an entire community is erased from the map.

A peculiar found footage film from 99.

Dangerous Minds | 1950s Calendar Girls: The original victims of Photoshop?

An interesting comparison of before and after 50's pinups.

Source photos of pin-up girls next to their painted “after” image. What caught my attention about these side-by-side comparisons is how they expose the 1950/60s version of photoshopping. Dig how painter Gil Elvgren, a noted American pin-up master, shaved the curves from real woman’s bodies to “i...

Maurice Sendak, Children’s Author, Dies at 83

Maurice, you were my favorite.

Mr. Sendak, who was known in particular for “Where the Wild Things Are,” created characters who are headstrong, bossy, even obnoxious, in contrast to the centuries-old custom of young heroes and heroines who appear well scrubbed and even better behaved.
