In this episode of the Australian Lure Fishing Podcast, I sit down with Rory Benn-Clibborn from Perch Palm Lures to explore advanced techniques for fishing with soft plastic lures. Rory, an expert in finesse fishing, shares innovative methods that are rarely used in Australia but highly effective overseas.

We kick off with drop shot rigging, a versatile technique allowing soft plastic lures to hover naturally above the bottom. Rory explains the setup, including the use of tungsten weights and straight shank drop shot hooks for increased sensitivity.

Next, we delve into the Texas rig, perfect for shallow, weedy, or structured environments. Using a sliding tungsten bullet weight, this method offers a natural presentation and reduces snags, ideal for targeting species like redfin, bass, and golden perch.

We then explore the Carolina rig, which adds a leader between the weight and the hook, making it excellent for open water fishing. Rory shares tips on using floating soft plastics to enhance this technique.

Rory also introduces wacky worm rigging, where the lure is hooked through the middle, creating a unique fluttering action. This method is effective for casting under structures and targeting species like redfin and bass.

Additionally, we discuss Ned rigging, a simple yet highly effective technique involving a mushroom-shaped jig head and buoyant soft plastic, perfect for catching a variety of species in different conditions.

Throughout the episode, we cover practical applications and situational uses of these techniques, offering listeners valuable insights to adapt their fishing strategies based on local conditions and fish behaviour.

Join us in this episode of the Australian Lure Fishing podcast as we chat with expert angler Nick Reay about trout fishing in the pristine waters of Lake Eucumbene. Nick shares his top tips and techniques for using three key lure types: metals, soft plastics, and suspending jerkbaits.

Metals: Nick explains how to effectively use metal lures, emphasizing the importance of varying depths and retrieval speeds.

Soft Plastics: Discover the versatility of soft plastics as Nick discusses casting into shallow waters during low light conditions and retrieving slowly to mimic natural prey. He touches on the use of a "donkey rig" for added effectiveness.

Suspending Jerkbaits: Perfect for colder water or less active fish, suspending jerkbaits require a slow retrieve with pauses to imitate injured baitfish.

Seasonal factors and weather conditions play a crucial role in trout behavior, and Nick emphasizes adapting your techniques based on these variables. He also shares insights into the best tackle and gear.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a beginner, this episode is packed with valuable information to help you succeed in Lake Eucumbene. Tune in and get ready to enhance your trout fishing game!

I had the opportunity to sit down with high profile Aussie fisho Paul Wortseling and chat about his favourite Australian fishing destinations. There are few among us who have fished as many places as Paul, so this was always going to be a fascinating conversation. I wasn't disappointed.

The second is Paul's appreciation and gratitude for the experiences he's had and his call to action for Aussie anglers to chase their fishing dreams.

I hope this episode inspires you to to identify your fishing dreams and make them happen!
