"202030 Berlin Fashion Summit Celebrates Denim's Transformation in Sustainability and Innovation"
In an inspiring event, the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit hosted a Denim Pop-up stage program, followed by a Community Gathering, on July 11, 2023. Fashion and sustainability enthusiasts from various sectors came together to delve into the metamorphosis of the denim sector, which has evolved from being an environmental concern to a beacon of innovation, equity, and positive impact.
The summit highlighted success stories and best practices from the denim industry, setting an example for positive change across the entire fashion domain. Attendees engaged in lively discussions and shared experiences during the two-hour programming at the Denim Pop-up, featuring representatives from different perspectives in the industry, including Lanius, Auf Augenhöhe, the Dutch Denim Deal, and Grüner Knopf (Green Button), among others.
One of the keynote speakers, Marian von Rappard, co-founder and owner of Dawn Denim, called for an era of honesty and authenticity in the fashion industry. He emphasized the need for significant changes in the industry in the next five to ten years to achieve sustainability goals.
Inclusivity also took center stage during the event, with Sema Gedik and Janina Nagel of Auf Augenhöhe highlighting the importance of embracing diversity within the fashion industry. Their brand and community platform, dedicated to adaptive fashion for the German market, advocated for more inclusive designs to ensure everyone can participate.
The panel discussion "From 'Dirty Denim' to Sustainability Leadership," led by the Denim Deal initiative, shed light on the efforts to create more sustainable supply chains in the denim sector. This comprehensive approach brought together voices from various backgrounds, including Roosmarie Ruigrok of the Denim Deal, Annabelle Homann of Lanius, Christine Moser-Priewich of Grüner Knopf (Green Button), Tanvir Kabir of the Bangladesh Embassy, and Tony Tonnaer of KOI Conscious Consulting.
Looking ahead, the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit plans to return in 2024 with an immersive two-day experience, promoting cutting-edge developments in sustainability and facilitating discussions among industry innovators and policy-makers.
