Steven is an ASC, DGA, WGA cinematographer, director, screenwriter, and author with a Hollywood career spanning nearly five decades. He shot the Oscar-winning film Monster, directed and wrote Decoding Annie Parker (Sloan Award winner), and helmed Last Call with John Malkovich. Steven has also been recognized for his cinematography on Magic City and received the Best Artistic Contribution Award for Like Water for Chocolate alongside Emmanuel Lubezki. An acclaimed author as well, his book Film Production was the top-selling filmmaking textbook and has introduced countless film lovers to the craft.
Steven’s impact goes beyond the lens. He’s worked globally, spearheading industry-building projects like helping launch the Greek film tax rebate and training hundreds of new filmmakers there. His audience—over 118,000 movie lovers, screenwriters, and indie fans—shows how grounded he stays in the creative community.
